It will hasten the progress of the world's countries allying with one of the two blocs being created for the purpose of survival.
It's inevitable as long as there is respect for M.A.D.

However, there's now already a possible exception to the MAD threat with Russia on the Ukraine or Israel on Iran. These are instances in which MAD is not quite inevitable.
