With So Many Ships Heading to America, We're Going to Need a Bigger Drill

I suppose that's why oil execs are clear that they see no need to build new refineries in the US.
9 Apr 2025
U.S. refiners are not planning to make big-ticket investments to process more domestic crude and less oil from top suppliers Canada and Mexico, industry sources and analysts said,
<~~~~~~~~~~>
Chemical companies have largely stopped building new oil refineries in the U.S. due to the lengthy regulatory processes and strict environmental regulations imposed by the EPA. Instead, they tend to upgrade existing facilities rather than invest in new ones.

Explain why thats wrong

Because every one of his policies has failed - utterly. His last trade war - where he renegotiated ALL of your trade deals around the world in his first Administration, resulted in your trade deficit nearly DOUBLING: $735 billion in 2016 when Obama was in office; $1.235 TRILLION in 2025.

The damage from this trade war is only now starting to be felt, but your trade deficit last year was HIGHER than in 2024. It was only $1.204 trillion in 2024. Deficits are for the first 2 months of this year, but not because imports are declining - they're going up, but so are your exports.

Pillage does seem to be a continuation of US policy.
Are we supposed to feel bad about that? I mean if we're going to be accused of it regardless, might as well make it a reality. Then your outrage could at least be genuine. :dunno:
No, of course not. You're exceptional.

You've just made it the clearest possible reality in Venezuela. I'm not surprised you seek an alternative reality where you didn't actually do that.

I understand MAGAts reactionary Americans slack jawed yokels can't comprehend outrage at pillage.

No worries.

We have not built a new refinery in many decades. New refineries are more efficient than old ones that are renovated. Nuclear power plants were/are the same due to you intellectual retards. The price would be lower. Did we stop building oil pipelines or did we increase using railroads to transport it as pipelines are much cheaper.
Silly ass, nuclear plants produce very expensive electricity. Many times more expensive than wind or solar. And then there is the danger of nuclear accident. Remember the GE plants were failure proof until Fukushima. The big pipe line we stopped building was for the transportation of Canadian Tar Sands oil for export to China. No, we did not stop building pipelines. In fact we have been building them hand over fist;

Major Oil and Natural Gas Pipeline Projects in the U.S. (Last 10 Years)

Over the past decade, the U.S. has seen significant expansion of both natural gas and crude oil pipeline capacity, driven by shale gas production, LNG exports, and energy market demand.

    Natural Gas Pipelines

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, 2024 saw major completions that added about 6.5 Bcf/d of takeaway capacity in key producing regions U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA):
    • Mountain Valley Pipeline – 2.0 Bcf/d from Appalachian Basin (Wetzel, WV) to Transco in Virginia.
    • Regional Energy Access Project – 0.8 Bcf/d expansion from Pennsylvania to New Jersey.
    • Louisiana Energy Access Project (LEAP) Phase 3 – 0.2 Bcf/d expansion, bringing total to 1.9 Bcf/d from Haynesville to Gulf Coast.
    • Matterhorn Express Pipeline – 2.5 Bcf/d from Permian Basin to Katy, TX.
    • Verde Pipeline – 1.0 Bcf/d from Eagle Ford (Webb County, TX) to Agua Dulce hub.
Other recent major projects approved by the FERC include:
    • Southeast Supply Enhancement Project (Transco, AL–GA–NC–VA) – 1,597 MMcf/d, in service Jan 2026 FERC.
    • Appalachia to Market III (Texas Eastern, DE–PA) – 6,500 MMcf/d, in service Feb 2026 FERC.
    • Wild Trail Project (Northwest Pipeline, UT) – 11,110 HP compression, in service Mar 2026 FERC.
    • Heartland Project (ANR Pipeline, IL–WI) – 44,650 MMcf/d, in service Jan 2026 FERC.

    Crude Oil Pipelines

While the provided sources focus on natural gas, recent decade-long trends show:
    • Expansion of Permian Basin export pipelines (e.g., Permian Express, Gulf Coast Express) to move crude from Texas to Gulf Coast refineries and export terminals.
    • Growth in Midwest to Gulf Coast crude pipelines to serve shale production in North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming.
    • Increased use of pipeline-to-rail interconnects to move oil from pipelines to railcars for export.

    Trends and Drivers

    • Shale gas boom in Appalachia, Haynesville, Permian, and Eagle Ford has fueled pipeline demand.
    • LNG export growth has expanded Gulf Coast and Louisiana pipeline capacity.
    • Regulatory approvals (FERC) have accelerated large-capacity projects, though some face environmental or community opposition.
    • Infrastructure modernization includes upgrades to compressors, valves, and interconnects to improve efficiency and reliability.

And we would have more supply if Biden hadn't drained much of the SPR for the 2022 midterms (and which Schumer blocked Trump adding to as 45.

And Biden slowed new wells thanks to his environmental policies, such as the fewest offshore leases in history.

Remember it takes several years to get from first hole to production, so Biden coasted on the Trump 45, while making a mess for 47.

Record U.S. Oil Production Under Biden

Yes — U.S. crude oil production reached record levels during President Joe Biden’s term, surpassing previous U.S. and even global records.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the U.S. averaged about 13.2 million barrels of crude oil per day in 2023, which was higher than the 13 million barrels per day record set under Donald Trump in November 2019 Scripps News. This output exceeded that of major oil producers like Saudi Arabia and Russia Scripps News.

By early 2024, the U.S. was producing nearly 13 million barrels per day on average, an all‑time high Vox. Weekly production also hit record highs, with some weeks exceeding 13 million barrels per day factually.co.

FactCheck.org’s final‑term analysis noted that crude oil, natural gas, natural gas plant liquids, biofuels, solar, and wind all set domestic production records in Biden’s last year in office FactCheck.org.

The surge was driven by a combination of factors:

  • Global demand recovery after the COVID‑19 pandemic.
  • High oil prices from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which boosted profits for U.S. producers Reuters.
  • Efficiency gains in drilling and production technology.
  • Continued permitting for oil and gas projects, including offshore and federal lands, even as Biden pursued climate goals Vox.
While Biden’s administration promoted renewable energy and climate policies, the record production was largely a result of market forces and infrastructure growth rather than a direct policy push to expand fossil fuels Reuters+1.

In summary: U.S. oil production under Biden was indeed record‑breaking, with 2023 and early 2024 marking the highest daily output in U.S. history, surpassing both Trump‑era highs and global superproducers’ output.

Key takeaways: Canada and Mexico, neither of which are impacted by Iran.
Of course Trump's comments about those nations and their leaders makes them so willing to make deals with us? And the tariffs he wants will make that oil less costly, right? LOL

Where's your evidence of 'pillage?
When you tell another nation you are going to control their major resource, and tell them the price you are going to pay for it, that is pillage. It may not be the traditional rape and destruction of villages, but it is steal the stealing of the wealth of another people.

What a load. The oil industry in the US doesn't need more refineries able to handle light sweet crude to make good profits.

You think they're thinking of your best interests?

Hilarity.

Chump's confiscation of Venezuelan oil after kidnapping Venezuela's head of state.

He's 'confiscated' it? Do you know what the definition of 'confiscate' is? You seem confused.

Sure. Took it off them and sold it to be able to skim off much of the proceeds.

verb (confiscated, confiscating) to take away something from someone, usually as a penalty. adj forfeited. confiscation noun. confiscator noun. confiscatory adj.
ETYMOLOGY: 16c: from Latin confiscare to transfer to the state treasury, from fiscus treasury.
What's your definition?

Based on data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), President Joe Biden has overseen the highest average oil production in U.S. history.
Hmm...., is that why he nearly drained the Strategic Petroleum Reserve?

Read more:
The Biden administration significantly reduced the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) by releasing millions of barrels to lower gas prices, particularly during the 2022 energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. This has led to the reserve being at its lowest level since the 1980s, raising concerns about future energy security.
