Agree to a certain extent, because means testing would cost money, and they’re blathering about the coffers being empty.

Then it was ruled that student debt loans had to be shown as national debt. The pandemic put umpteen more billions on, then welfare cheating is another billion or two per year. Then public sector ungrateful workers forever striking, piling more debt onto the UK.
