I'm hearing that the government may mandate that all future vehicles have a "kill switch" installed. I'm trying to find more definitive information but it seems to be all over the board. Some say that it would simply disallow impaired folks from starting the vehicle. Others are saying that the switch could be activated while the car is in motion (scary thought). Personally, I don't think I'd buy a car with a device that allows third parties or A.I. to determine if I'm allowed to drive or not. But that's just the stubborn freedom-lover in me standing against more government intrusion. People and A.I. malfunction all the time.

Thomas Massie has a few questions and seems to be opposed to the idea:

Luckily I am old enough to avoid any "new car models" till the day I drop dead.
My "oldie" collection will easily do till then.

I've been forecasting their advent for years. None of my cars even have one of those underdash plugs to pull codes from the engine.

The kill switches are coming. Some uses:
  1. Instead of chasing speeders/criminals, the cops just send a kill command to the car to disable you.
  2. Kill your car if you don't pay child support.
  3. Kill your car if you don't make car payments.
  4. Kill your car if you owe back taxes.
  5. Kill your car if you are wanted in a crime.
On top of that, the car will report its location at all times. Meanwhile, they can't even prosecute Hillary for selling secrets to the chinese nor punish congress for shutting the government down not doing their jobs.

Welcome to 1984.

Same here. I have a 2003 Silverado with just under 135,000. It'll serve me well until I pass away.

If cops send a kill command to a car in motion without warning, they could cause an accident.

You can have them installed now. They're good for when/if your vehicle gets stolen. Those that are smart will pair it with a gps tracker. Think about it - you can stop criminals in the midst of mayhem and pick where you shut your vehicle down at. I know a few Gladiator owners that have installed them.

My "oldies" have a simple petrol circuit breaker - if not activated ;)

Probably not, it would just be like running out of gas, you'd still have your steering to stay on the roadway and brake control.

This is one of the reasons that digital currency will come with consequences.
Aside from digital currency, here are more as we are moving at a rapid pace toward the digital age.

Use too water, your tap flow is reduced.

Use too much electricity, your lights are no longer under your control.

Drive too much, kill switch on your car has been initiated.

Turn the AC on to max, temperature setting in your home is under big brother’s control.

Speaking up against the government, your assets are frozen.

That second thing..
We flipped a 1995 Silverado not too long ago. I had a friend that would have paid double what we got for it.
People are doing that these days. Edelbrock and Holley. ;)
Guarantee that's what's on my buddy's Jeep. With a 400.
Takes squirrely to the next level.

maybe they will just have something that disables the starting?

In CA, staying on the roadway with a car that won't run could be a death sentence. ;)

That is if you are really rich or don’t give a damn about social security. I wouldn’t be shocked if more are moving to countries with far lower cost of living. It’s hypocritical that Democrats criticized China for their massive surveillance while Democrats are doing exactly the same.

Whoah, I thought you can still collect social security checks in Thailand... or do you mean overall social welfare?

You can but what’s stopping big brother from freezing your assets unless you renounce your citizenship.
