Will many government employees quit or retire rather than show up at the office every day?

Yep I did it for 42 years. I truly regret the hard work I did to help the companies i worked for. I surely didn't owe them the loyalty.
I did it for decades, as well. I don’t regret that I earned enough to buy a beautiful upscale townhouse, take European cruises and ski vacations out West, go to the Kennedy Center fairly often, eat out at nice restaurants, etc., etc.

My hard work helped the companies, of course (that’s why they paid me), but it also gave me a comfortable life.

Yes. I know several government employees who are in the mid to late 60s, and had told me earlier (before DOGE) that the reason they DON’T retire is they earn a lot of money (ranging from $150k to $180k) and are required to put in so little effort. They log in the morning from home, put in a few hours, and then have the rest of the day off.

I haven’t asked all of them, but two I know - one 69 and one 68 - told me they would retire if they had to commute downtown and work full days.
I think thats typical of most federal employees

And Trump and Elon know it - along with every person in the DC region.

I can’t wait for pool season. I’ll finally be able to get a chair in the shade since the government workers won’t be hogging them all afternoon.

Government workers feel entitled

Musk and Trump are showing them otherwise

So true. It’s unbelievable. You should hear them bitch about their commute - as if I didn’t do it for 35 years myself.

It’s a rude awakening for them, for sure, and long overdue.
