That's been an Olympic sport since 1904, descended from a popular English pastime.

In that sport, you're supposed to always have one foot touching the ground. Then the cameras with the slo-mo showed that 100% of the "walkers" weren't following that rule, that all of them had both feet off the ground at some point. So rather than enforce the rule strictly, they wink at a little bit of cheating. It's a judgement call by the officials about how much "both feet are off the ground" cheating is allowed.

owe something to their breeders? yea, i suppose so. the price in "humanity" seems to have been a bit high, our old southerners seem to have been better at it than the other experiment in selectively breeding humans, the european aristocracy.

I have not watched one second of the Olympics in Paris. I never enjoyed going to the circus as a kid and that's basically what the Olympics have become. I never agreed with events that require judging because it turns sporting events into television variety shows. Watching acrobats flip around and then get a score bores me. Seeing how many gold medals one country gets over another does not inspire patriotism in my heart. I know it's all done to make money for some people and I guess that's ok.
