With the stacked lineup of 2026 movie releases will it be the biggest movie year of this century? It definitely wont be the biggest dollar year likely due to people's new habit of being homebodies since COVID who just wait for streaming. However the line up is pretty loaded.

What other releases are you looking forward to? Particularly the new and original films at the bottom.

Major Sequels, Reboots & Franchise Entries:

Book Adaptions:
  • Project Hail Mary: An adaptation of Andy Weir's sci-fi novel.
  • The Odyssey: Homer's epic poem gets a big-screen treatment.
  • Wuthering Heights: An adaptation of the classic novel.
  • The Bride: Maggie Gyllenhaal's take on the Frankenstein story.
  • Narnia: A new adaptation of the beloved fantasy series.
  • The Whisper Man: An adaptation of Alex North's thriller, starring Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan, Robert De Niro, and Michael Keaton.
  • Verity: A thriller from Colleen Hoover is also coming to screens.
  • The Bodyguard: A Netflix adaptation of Katherine Center's novel.
  • Sense and Sensibility: A new take on Jane Austen's classic.
Original & New Films:
  • Disclosure Day: A new sci-fi concept.
  • The Dog Stars: A post-apocalyptic sci-fi film from director Ridley Scott, starring Jacob Elordi.
  • Cold Storage: A thriller by David Koepp about a deadly organism stored beneath a military facility, set for a February 2026 release.
  • Incidents Around the House: An original horror film from Apple.
  • Dead Man's Wire:
A social thriller from Gus Van Sant based on the 1977 kidnapping of Richard Hall. It stars Bill Skarsgard as kidnapper Tony Kiritsis and Dacre Montgomery as Hall.
  • The Social Reckoning:
An original screenplay by Aaron Sorkin focusing on Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen. The film stars Mikey Madison as Haugen and Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg.
  • Send Help:
Directed by Sam Raimi, this survival thriller is his first original feature in nearly two decades. It stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien as two individuals stranded on a desert island after a plane crash.

I don't do theaters in the US. Asia? Love them. In the US, I haven't for many years preceding COVID.

I think this trend will continue. People don't want to pay to be around ghetto trash.

"Between a summer of disappointing remakes, sequels and outright flops, a massive downturn in production and the worst October in 30 years, things are looking bad for the fine folks of Hollywood. Let's find out why."

Not sure what shithole you live in but I go to a Regal Theater in the Charlotte area and you couldnt have a much better experience. It is a IMAX lite theater where they have a slightly smaller version IMAX and two other big screen experiences plus a 4D theater with moving seats etc (gimmicky) and a whole host of about 15 regular theaters all with reclining seats of various sizes.

The one knock is they switched to Pepsi from Coke. Blah.

There were some big event misses this year for sure but the smaller movies were pretty good.

2026 is shaping up to be much better.

Was that just last year? Wow.

I liked Weapons and Sinners. Wake up Dead Man was good too.

The problem is that the blacks and trailer trash are a short ride away. There is definitely no shortage of either.
The idea of sitting in a theater surrounded by these savages, the stench of skunked marijuana (poverty), and uncontrolled verbal spasms gives me chills.

As last year was the worst year (sans pandemic) since the 90s, that doesn't seem to hard to accomplish.

. . but I doubt it will be the "biggest," of this century so far.

IMO, we will be lucky if tinsel town ever has years as good as they were pre-pandemic.

Avatar appears to have done very well indeed at $900mm so far. Didn't see it or the previous one.
My kid wanted to go see it with me, as we saw the first two in theaters together.

I wasn't much impressed with the last one, and we both trust the reviews from Critical Drinker, so we passed on see this one in the theater. If it hadn't been three + hours, we might have, just for nostalgia's sake, but meh. . it just is not worth the time or money this time around.

This is a movie thread my man. Keep your racist **** shit out. If you want to start your own thread in badlands I'll come over and shit on you there but lets keep this about the movies. Feel free to shit on the movies if you think they suck , but hick racism keep bottled.

It's crazy how much people became hermit after Covid. I have to drag my wife to the movies. She likes it while she is there but the idea of going while we are at home just weighs on her. Weird but not unusual right now.

I liked but didnt love either of the first two Avatar's. I seem to be in the minority. Those movies kill it at the box office. Especially worldwide. Im tempted to see in theater for the visuals.
