Any pilot would check charts to know where and at what altitude obstacles are on their flight path. Any instructor would have filed the flight plan, not the student.

Incorrect. Filing flight plans is part of learning to fly.

So your contention is an instructor would allow a student to go through and pick a course and he/she would not look it over before flying to be sure they wouldn't die or be in violation of airspace.
