This is the "means test public option" we now have:
A kid gets sick from a low income WORKING family, no doctor will see them and they show up at the emergency room of the local hospital.
Total bill for this visit= $1700+ for time, resources and the ER doctor to see this kid with a bad cold.
Multiply that by millions.
And folks just love this current system we have.
All one has to do is review how that came about.
Some one decided ER visits should be covered close to one hundred percent. It became cost effective for familys to skip the doctor visit and go straight to the ER.
End of story. Another decision made without thought of consequence.
Sort of and you are on to it but it is not the end of story. The family skipped the docto because they do not have the $180 for a 2 minute doctor visit.
One hastoacknowledge that the fact that American health, or diesease, care has gone from 4% of GNP in 1960 to close to 20% now as the problem.
We DEMAND too much health care. Does your car insurance pay for oil changes, homeowners for the house to be painted and new carpet?
Group health care as a benefit is the worst possible way to structure a HEALTH care system.
Great for all in the medical field and the insurance companies but very bad for the HEALTH of a country as evidenced by how unhealthy we are. Great for disease care as that pays out 60% of all group health care dollars for 4% of the population.
I opposed the Obama plan as all that is is more of the same. We need a public option, public health clinics and the ability to get reading glases fitted with frames without having a doctor sign off on it. Nurses need to be able to do their job without a doctor sining off on it. ON and on and on.
The current system is fucked. How can we operate this in 30 years when health care costs consume 35-40% of GNP?
Deny that and we get no where as that is what is happening. Blank check group health insurance "care" must go for most because taxpayers can not afford it and it does not work.
