One hastoacknowledge that the fact that American health, or diesease, care has gone from 4% of GNP in 1960 to close to 20% now as the problem.
We DEMAND too much health care. Does your car insurance pay for oil changes, homeowners for the house to be painted and new carpet?
Group health care as a benefit is the worst possible way to structure a HEALTH care system.
Great for all in the medical field and the insurance companies but very bad for the HEALTH of a country as evidenced by how unhealthy we are. Great for disease care as that pays out 60% of all group health care dollars for 4% of the population.
I opposed the Obama plan as all that is is more of the same. We need a public option, public health clinics and the ability to get reading glases fitted with frames without having a doctor sign off on it. Nurses need to be able to do their job without a doctor sining off on it. ON and on and on.
The current system is fucked. How can we operate this in 30 years when health care costs consume 35-40% of GNP?

Think for a moment. Free universal PREVENTATIVE healthcare. Provided to each American citizen as a birthright. Preventative healthcare includes education, innoculations, and physical examinations including lab tests for ealy detection of chronic expensive disease.
In the long-term this will save money, save lives and reduce human misery.

Of course a public option, providing health insurance for emergency room visits for accident and injury and serious onset of disease, hospital care and treatment, including major medical, is the next step. For this a fee for service (Co-Pay) as well as an annual premium can be expected.
Such premiums might be paid by an employer, allowing business to provide a benefit without breaking their bank.
