Why was the TV landscape more vapid in the 2000s?

There is now so much good TV!

It seems like the most popular TV during the 2000s was "Reality TV" and soap operas about rich people.

Why was society more vapid and materialistic during the 2000s?

What kind of shows would have been on TV during the 2000s if American and Western society dreamed of space and the future instead of being greedy and celebrity obsessed?

Money ...

Reality-TV costs next-to-nothing to produce and people watch it for the same reason that people slow down to watch a car wreck. Ka-Ching.

There is also an alternative on the streaming-services for big-budget block-busters that are superior to anything free-to-air has ever offered.

I say we're living in a golden age of TV entertainment ... there is literally something for everyone.

On "reality TV' Not one person would look at the camera. They also read from a script and changed angles of camera shots. Just like "survivor" It is a con to the viewers because low IQ people actually think these people live the way they do. Tell me if you walked into a room full of TV cameras , would you look into them or avoid looking into them, while you read a script?
