The United States Supreme Court issued an advisory opinion back in 2009 that Congress had better revise the Voting Right Act of 1965 or it was done. Democratic controlled Congress refused to act. Shelby County, Alabama won. Basic argument was that times have changed and people’s voting rights are no longer being violated in the South. It’s the truth...and they won. Justice Department can longer overstep its bounds and interfere in local elections. So, when people on this board, especially when threads arise about gerrymandering or voter ID laws come up,need to be educated on the issue.

What does gerrymandering have to do with the VRA?
Thank you...then why do liberals keep trying to associate the two into some big “racism stew?”

People's voting rights are being assaulted all over the country with voter suppression laws and gerrymandering. If the GOP ain't cheatin' they ain't winning.
