Like with most other types of government propaganda the average person living the real life in the real world often will scratch their heads and wonder...." What the Fuck are they talking about?" The economy is my favorite one. Changing the definition of the word inflation to suit their own narrative allows the government and those who mouthpiece for them to sneer at people who claim inflation is on the rise.....but those buying groceries, paying energy bills and struggling to make their mortgage payments know better.
The small segment of the investor class who make a good living off of stock market numbers ( very small percentage btw) laugh at the travails of those who still slave out to the 40 hour work week as the dollar implodes to an intrinsic value of 3 cents per unit....something that might actually favor some investors in fact.
Violent Crime is another one of these hinky definitions that they like to play games with. While it is obvious the the average observer that it has become more frequent, more accepted and more likely to occur...the powers that be simply wave a magic definition want to exclude things that were previously included in that category so they can run to the microphone and make the lying announcement that VIOLENT CRIME has decreased. ...once again causing much head scratching and wonderment with the public who is living the life that informs them much better than the OFFICIAL politically correct numbers thank you very much Mr, Lysenko.

Now it the case could be made that communities were too quick to call something a violent crime that wasn't really a violent crime....pressure put on the prison system and the county budgets to house feed and retain prison populations can wield real force when the $$$'s for perks and graft/grift start drying up.
Sooooo....time to redefine and free up some buckaroos no?
Does such a definition change mean that crime has actually gone down as the claim is being made? Or does is really mean that the definition of crime as gone down?
Hmmm....... That people have grown tired of reporting things that never get handled? That police departments have stopped writing down things that they know will never get prosecuted?
ET VOILA! Violent Crimes are down!
Presto chango no problemo!

Many “Violent Offenders” Have Committed Nonviolent Crimes
Embezzlement and selling drugs near a school are among the offenses some states classify as violent.
