The average egg price has recently been around 50 cents per egg or 6 bucks per dozen, right? So if the average person eats 280 eggs a year that's $140 bucks. per year So if you cut eggs down to 3 bucks a dozen you are saving the average egg eater a lousy $70 bucks per year. Now all things in aggregate going up I understand. But for some reason high egg prices has everyone freaking out. For $70 more dollars a year? That's not even one dinner for two!

Why????? Because eggs had always been a cheap source of protein that many people relied on when they couldn't afford beef, pork or chicken. Now it's difficult to afford the eggs as well

easy digestible egg white protein (6 grams per egg) plus a yolk with omega/vits and lipids means I eat 2 most mornings .
So 6 breakfast cost me each about a $1 + toast and coffee.

I've never paid more than about 3-something or 4-something a dozen.

That's a lot. That is like 6 eggs a week. At my worst I suppose I equaled or exceeded that number but for years have actually only averaged maybe two dozen a year! Not including eggs dining out like when I have Egg Foo Young.

But they are also used in most pastries and in many cooked foods.

All city folks have to do is post a message on the bulletin board @ your local farm & feed store asking for affordable eggs & leave your name & contact number. The Rhode Island Reds(brown eggs) generally lay medium-large eggs but the yoke is more orange/darker yellow so they are more rich in flavor. The Leghorn(can't go wrong here) breed of hens will lay large to extra large eggs. The Araucana(easter eggers) breed lay large+ eggs. The different colors of their eggs is not of importance. The Barred Rock hens lay brown eggs in the medium to large size. Bantam(not my favorite) hens generally lay medium size eggs. Paying with cash always gets a pretty good deal from the smaller farmers, especially in quantity!

I rarely cuss in public but when I saw...15.99 for 18 eggs....I had to let out a holy shit..eggs are just a basic protein used in all areas of cooking

I usually eat oatmeal for breakfast.
