My buddy who is also in his 50's and single sent me this. It's so spot on
Some of the things I related to. Older guys have no interest in meeting someone, going on a few dates, in hopes that maybe she's the one. Emotional fatigue. Tired of the process and how fast the connection can be lost.
A guy who's happily married for 10 years and his wife dies is going to want to go out and find someone else because he was successful in finding a soul mate. Us older guys have seen too much failure to believe the next one could be the one.
We've seen too many times that attraction can fade quickly and without warning. Loyalty is conditional. It's not being cynical it's realistic. How quickly I can go from in love to not in love. Scar tissue. Each experience hardens us. Slow to trust. Being alone doesn't mean being lonely. Hobbies, purpose, freedom. We value ourselves. Starting over is regression. Peace is Invest in ourselves.
He said:
Love without peace is not love
Companionship without respect is not worth the effort
Peace is not negotiable.
I see a lot of guys who have to walk on eggshells around their wives. Or they say they pick and choose their arguments. This is because they don't want to be alone. You have to compromise to live with someone else. Us single guys haven't met anyone who made us want to take them into our homes and have to listen to them nagging.
