Why not replace statues of traitors with statues of heroes?

Who gets to judge? By Race or gender? Twenty Seven (white) Marines and Navy were awarded the MOH on Iwo Jima. Should they all get statues? Douglas MacArthur abandoned his entire Army at Corrigador but there is a gigantic monument to him. Let it go lefties, you don't hold a winning hand.

My father who served in WWII, beginning at age 17, agreed on MacArthur.

Why do Republicans want their heroes to be people who tried to destroy this country? I don't get it.

Robert E Lee on Confederate monuments.

"Lee did not want such divisive symbols following him to the grave," Horn wrote. "At his funeral in 1870, flags were notably absent from the procession. Former Confederate soldiers marching did not don their old military uniforms, and neither did the body they buried.

According to Horn, Lee's daughter wrote, "His Confederate uniform would have been 'treason' perhaps!"

"Lee believed countries that erased visible signs of civil war recovered from conflicts quicker," Horn told PBS. "He was worried that by keeping these symbols alive, it would keep the divisions alive."

Jesus you dopey cons, Lee himself wanted all evidence of the Civil War and the Confederacy erased because those things would keep the divisions alive.

TADA!!
My son read biographies of both Lee and Grant at one time. He believes that Lee's motives for fighting for the Confederacy were only to fight for his home. It is pretty clear.

Lee was one hell of a man. Most folks that go through West point know this. It is a shame he is being made into a political figure. Lee hated slavery. He freed his. Grant's family held onto theirs.

It is a shame how the school and MSM brain-washes us.

"He had become a symbol of Southern resistance to the Union armies and was made an icon of the Lost Cause in the post-war South. Today, he remains internationally respected as a daring, often brilliant tactician, a gentleman who never referred to Northern soldiers as “the enemy” but as “those people over there,” a man who opposed secession but felt honor-bound to serve his native state. He applied for restoration of his American citizenship, but the papers were lost until the 1970s, when his wish was granted."

Stop with this arm flailing nonsense. History isn't in a few statues. It is recorded in books and other historical documents which are housed in safe places and SHOULD be housed in safe places and protected. Children will still be taught about the Civil War as they always have been.

It has just come time to clean up some of the 'regalia' that Southerners erected to try to white wash the Civil War and paint it as a noble cause and to have daily reminders to black people that 'we're still in charge'. Exhalting statues of political and military leaders that LOST a war against the United States is on extremely shaky ground to begin with. Only because we are an open an tolerant society in general was that even allowed to take place.

These things offend many people because it represents oppression to them. No need to destroy all these statues just move them to museums where they belong. Where children can go on field trips to view them as well as the people of the town.

How are you with tearing down statues of Nathan Bedford Forrest and others like him?

Just stop with this false equivalency crap. It isn't 1984, no history is being destroyed or rewritten, in fact history is being preserved as it really happened. The South lost the war, contrary to what so many of these statues would have the public believe.

Afraid that even our hero's are human beings, that means there not perfect, so you will always be able to dig some dirt on them if your preference is digging dirt.

Yes now you are getting it. 'Founding America' was brutal to many people. I don't think monuments to these men will be coming down any time soon. In another 50-100 years? Maybe. That doesn't erase history. History is forever recorded in countless places and documents. These are only symbols. I've heard a number of Libertarian say "tear them all down, we here in the US do not worship other men anyway".

You are again using a false equivalency though. Public symbols for people that conducted a war against the United States had no place in a place of reverence to begin with. It's obvious that you and most conservatives have no real argument against taking down these Confederate symbols so you try to throw out a Red Herring "well monuments are the same and they are all of heroes of the United States". Not by a million miles.

But you have nothing else.

Not a liberal word is honest. Fact is, the only criteria is skin color, and if you're white and represent the foundation of this country you're toast. All else is BS:

‘We know the Confederate are Republicans. Was Lincoln a "confederate"?’

We know for a fact that bigots and racists find refuge among the ranks and Republicans, who are loath to condemn their bigotry and racism out of a fear of losing the votes of bigots and racists.

We did erect statues to our America's hero's, but the dems want them all
torn down.

Let's see...The American hero who fought his way over the wall and then fought
his way to the top of the fortress at Chapultepec and raised the American Flag during the Mexican-American War was George Pickett. He was handed the flag
by another officer who was wounded during the American assault...James Longstreet.

Pickett was married to Sally Harrison Minge. She was the Great-Great Grand Daughter of Benjamin Harrison V...a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Longstreet was a member of the Wedding Party of U.S. Grant. Longstreet's
wife and Grant's wife were cousins.

Southern General Lewis Armistead was also a hero in the Mexican-American
War and his Uncle...was Major George Armistead...the commanding
officer of Fort McHenry therefore becoming the original guardian of the
Star Spangled Banner.

Additionally an aide to General Winfield Scott in the Mexican-American War
distinguished himself by discovering by-passes around Mexican strong
points that were undefended as the Americans marched from Veracruz to
Mexico City. That allowed American to rout the Mexicans at those "choke"
points and reach Mexico City. That guy would go on to become the
Commanding Officer of West Point and he was captured by CONFEDERATE
FORCES in Texas. His name was Robert E Lee.

They all were American Heroes who had their oath betrayed when the
President of the United States raised an Army to INVADE HIS OWN COUNTRY.

Being noble...they resigned their commissions and became citizens of the
Confederate States of America.

Why do you guys want to tear down these monuments to American Heroes?

Because when they became Confederates, they became traitors. When you want to destroy the nation of your birth, then you are called a traitor for good reason.

They didn't destroy the Nation of their birth. They resigned from the
Military, that had a President that was raising an Army to Invade his
own Country. What they did was to return to the State of their birth
and defend it from an invading Army.
