In my opinion this is because cities don't want poor people around so while they talk about affordable housing, they find ways to thwart any serious effort at providing such.

Affordable housing for vagrants?

Big cities have TONS of housing projects for poor people.

They’re often plagued with crime, violence, and drugs (all three related), but that’s the fault of the poor people who live there. The rents are still affordable.

I tend to agree with the left on this issue.

Corporations need to be barred from purchasing single-family housing. They turn the houses into rental properties that fully cover the mortgage on not only that unit but also two others.

No corporate ownership of housing other than their own personal use -- meaning the people who work for that corporation -- should be permitted.

You can add, "Why are we, the largest economy in the world, unable to afford healthcare for all Americans" when all the other major industrial countries with much lower GDP can and do? It is all economics and what the ruling political class, wants to address and pay for, out of this country's resources.

Define "affordable". Affordable to whom? Affordable to the people getting the housing or the builder?

Most importantly, who should pay for these people's "affordability"?

They don't. Other then Denmark (population 5 million, and a Sovereign oil company to pay for it) , no European country has the magical Healthcare systems you claim.

The British NHS is a horror show, with wait times for an ambulance reaching 96 hours.

The Canadian system is so great that their politicians come here to the US for their lifesaving operations.

You believe a myth.

There is one additional factor.

The buyer.

A kid, straight out of a four-year college, believes they should be able to afford a 6000 sq ft house with a built-in pool and a gaming room with all the bells and whistles, all on a 40k dollar salary.

If they don't get that, they whine, complain, and trash society's infrastructure because they don't get to start at the top instead of working for, planning for, and setting goals to achieve what they want.

They want their trophy, and the world is a fucked up place if they don't get what they want, when they want it.

They've been told. They are either following an agenda or are just as stupid as a stump in a Louisiana bayou.

Most likely, it is just greed on their part.

They don't want to have to pay for their life or even struggle to get things in life. It is flat out greed.

fear of death works pretty good,,

we lived 3 blocks away and my shop was 1/2 mile away so shuffling materials and tools wasnt a big deal and more so with my 1 ton van and being a 30 yr handyman/contractor,,

in the 1912 house we just redid the kitchen bath and 1 bedroom on the 1973 addition that brought the first indoor toilet in,
the rest we plan to do this yr,,

the block house I put a new roof on and gutted the inside and is waiting for the redo,,
these two were bought for 72K as a package deal "9acres"

the third house 60K was bought later for mother in law and we went through the whole thing and updated the kitchen and bath "3 acres"

hoping to get the commercial property next door with 3 acres this summer when they retire,, but they think everything is worth triple what it actually is,, so we will see what happens,,
