Democrats walk out of Pam Bondi briefing on Epstein files over subpoena compliance
House Democrats walked out of a closed-door hearing with Attorney General Pam Bondi on Wednesday while she was briefing lawmakers on the Epstein files a day after being subpoenaed to testify in mid-April.Democratic members of the Republican-led House Oversight Committee told reporters that Bondi, who was joined by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, would not commit to complying with the subpoena for her sworn testimony April 14 to answer questions about the Justice Department's handling of records related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., the top Democrat on the panel, said Bondi "refused on multiple occasions to commit to following the subpoena."
Democrats walk out of Pam Bondi briefing on Epstein files over subpoena compliance
The Republican-led House Oversight Committee subpoenaed the attorney general Tuesday. The Justice Department called it "completely unnecessary."
Rep. Nancy Mace initiated the move to subpoena Bondi over her lack of responsiveness on the release of the full Epstein files as required by law. To be clear, the AG of the US is not complying with the law.
Yesterday's stunt appears to be a R designed end around the subpoena. Pam showed up on less than 24 hours notice so the D's on the Oversight Comm. didn't have time to prepare questions. No matter, Pam wasn't going to answer any. She was subpoenaed to in order to present a briefing on the status of releasing the rest of the files. She had no briefing ready. Her appearance was a shameful attempt to claim she had met the requirements of the subpoena allowing her to avoid further testimony.
I suspect R's on the board will cheer her deceit and that of the committee chairman, the duplicitous Jim Comer. The rest of the world will be less pleased.
