Why is California allowed to remain in unprecedented drought?

The ancient Romans constructed aqeducts using bronze Age tools and know-how. We cut though hundreds of miles of earth to make the Panama Canal. There is no technological reason we can't bring water from rain-saturated northern California to the central and southern parts where they desperately need water.

California's made pipelines and aqeducts for water before. Why not again so areas with too much water can transport it to drought-afflicted areas?

Can build a pipeline for oil but not water?

Democrats control the state is why.

Okay how do I put this politely- you are ignorant.
  • there is no 'rain-saturated Northern California' right now- true Northern California does get more rain than Southern California- but almost all of California is suffering from a years long drought- this is Shasta Dam- the largest in California- far to the North of California

  • California already has pipelines which move water from Northern California to Southern California
  • Moving water does not make more water- it just moves it from one place to another. Right now we do not have enough water for both Agriculture, and non-Agriculture needs.
  • We can be doing more to conserve the water we have- but still this doesn't make new water.

Democrats control the state is why.

Do you think that Democrats are the ones preventing rain from falling?

In normal years you might have a good point. But Northern California is in severe drought as is the whole of the West Coast. Severe drought or worse.
the point stands since south carolina is under water but we can ship oil from the middle east

We could certainly build pipelines to move water from the water rich East to the West Coast.....but the volumes necessary to equal the rainfall would be almost impossible to achieve, and would be prohibitively expensive to get there.

we dont need a pipeline we already have a barrel shipping industry all rigged together but.....thats a more important resource its rigged for apparently

Pipelines are more efficient than tankers.

But if you are saying- take all of the oil tankers out of service from transporting petroleum- just to supply California with water- well I think that you would end up with lots of polluted water being shipped to California, but not enough- and not enough gas and oil flowing to the United States.

They have alot to do with moving the water. Guppies are more important.

The OP asked why California is allowed to remain in an unprecidented drought- so I will presume you are not as stupid as he is and do not think that Democrats control the rain and snowfall in California.

What guppies?
What water?
Why do you imagine that shipping more water- that Northern California is now short of also- to Southern California- will end the drought?

Masada was built 2,000 years ago in a desert and held enough water to last 30 years. You saying people today are dumber? I agree then.

Oh Shasta Lake holds enough water even now for 30 years. If it only had to support a population of 3,000 or so.

I am saying that the OP is an idiot- that Democrats cannot make it rain, nor can Democrats make more water. We have reservoirs up and down the state and the West that are emptying out- because- duh- of the drought.

Ummmmm, "rain saturated" northern California ain't. And there are THREE aqueducts feeding SoCal. I don't know where you got your info but it seems to originate from the 1880's or thereabouts.

What CA needs to do is build a bunch of desalination plants and be done with it.

There are some seriously STUPID people still in california that have no clue what drought means. Weekend yard sale in the town next to me was an older couple who is moving because they have no water. None. Well went dry. This house they have lived in for many years....gone. IF they can find a buyer. Maybe a rancher will purchase it and tear it down along with all the memories, and let his cattle roam around since it is a wee bit outside the city limits.

Meanwhile....my sister lives in Bakersfield....Lake Isabella is almost completely dried up. There is no more river rafting because there is no river. So what does she do? She calls and is all excited on the 3 fruit trees she just planted and the lawn she just had installed in the front yard that she waters every other day. And she hoses down her sidewalk so it's "pretty".
I have to hang up when she tells me this shit. It pisses me off.

On topic, there are railroad tracks all over this nation. Why can't canals be crisscrossing as well so when SC and NC and all these cities getting flooded, the water has a place to go besides downtown burying businesses, homes, street signs, etc?
I've asked myself that question too. Why is nothing being done?
