Lori Loughlin, Mossimo Giannulli Plead Not Guilty In College Cheating Scandal

Actress Lori Loughlin and her fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, entered not guilty pleas Monday in federal court in Boston.

Both waived their right to appear in court for arraignment.

Federal prosecutors announced additional charges last week against Loughlin, Giannulli and 14 other wealthy parents. They face one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and honest-services mail and wire fraud, as well as one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Loughlin is best known for playing the role of Aunt Becky on Full House. Giannulli's Mossimo brand was a core clothing label at Target until 2017.

LAW
Lori Loughlin, 15 Others Indicted On New Charges In College Admissions Scandal
Giannulli and Loughlin are accused of paying $500,000 in bribes arranged by college admissions consultant William "Rick" Singer to get their daughters admitted to the University of Southern California as recruits for the crew team, despite neither of them being a rower.

According to the Justice Department's superseding indictment, Giannulli and Loughlin made payments in 2016 and 2017 to former USC Associate Athletic Director Donna Heinel and to Key Worldwide Foundation, which was operated by Singer.
She has a Super duper Lawyer, who used to work for the Justice department on high profile cases...

What I saw in the news today, she has a very good chance of getting off on their primary charges that involve money laundering and wire fraud and tax evasion etc....

the crimes have never been for getting her daughter in to a good school, that is up to the Schools themselves to police.

it happens daily, with students getting in good schools due to Legacy, a parent that donated BIG or their parent was an alumni...

but they are trying to nail her for using a phony charity, to launder the money, and then taking a tax write off for this money donated to this charity, of which the coach or whomever involved was getting the money illegally for his own use.

Her lawyer's argument is going to be that she and her hubby, did not know that it was not a legitimate charity.... how were they suppose to know it was not a legal charity?

the charity had all the legal papers and forms and gvt approval of such, as a legal charity to be able to donate to, and take the tax write off.

She will likely win, on this technicality of "not knowing the charity was not a legitimate charity, when the gvt itself, had it as a legitimate charity".

The fact is that the people who complain the loudest are the people who would do the same thing if they had the money.
what a stupid stereotype.

it also just doesn't matter. she broke the law. she will now go through the process and we'll see how much good her money does her.

You people are the stupid ones. The fact is that most of these charges are pure bullshit. Prosecutors will use the fact that they are rich against them. There has to be some proportionality in the supposed crime. Prosecutors are looking for suckers like you.

Um no. It's not "pure bullshit" to bribe someone to get your kid into a school they don't qualify for. That's against the law and here's why:

Why Paying Bribes to Get Your Child Into College Is a Crime

Mail and wire fraud statutes identify a scheme to defraud as including the “right of honest services.” That turns the dishonesty of getting your child admitted to their college of choice into a crime that is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Again the penalty has to fit the crime. The fact is it may be a crime but we have to pay to put them in prison. I as a taxpayer say 20 years is ridiculous. We are not dealing with the mob. This has been blown all out of proportion.

One: Its bribery

Two: her kids were taking the place of someone else who was trying real hard to get in college

Three: She felt her children was entitled because she is famous and a lot of money.

One: Should someone spend the rest of their life in prison for it? It is low grade bribery at best. Taxpayers have to pay for that.

Two: That is conjecture at best.

Three: While you should not get special treatment, you also should not be singled out because you are rich.

Let them pay a big fine and let's go home.
Wouldn't that just reinforce their belief that they can buy their way through life, fairness and our laws be damned?

Should they be punished for being rich? That is what you seem to be advocating. Again the punishment should fit the crime. It is not a crime that someone should spend the rest of their life in prison for.

I agree

I think it is a case of overzealous parenting
Our prisons are overfilled as it is, housing non violent offenders is a waste of prosecution

The negative publicity, heavy fines and community service should be enough punishment

A basic prosecutorial method is turning people to get more people.

Nobody has been overcharged. It is unethical to charge someone for a crime that you know you can't prove.

The evidence is overwhelming. Her behavior fits the crime of wire fraud to the tune of a half million dollars.

Sweet. If Loughlin insists on a trial, her daughters can be called to testify. Hell yeah, lesbian prison reality tv with the mom and two bareley legal daughters. Hell yeah.

And there's even a convenient LA facility for females. Shower up ladies.

These people are too rich and successful to be in jail for just a silly thing as this....if they have the money to put their kids in school, even by these methods, it's their right to do so as wealthy successful Americans -- it should inspire others to work harder and achieve the same..

It's these others we need to crack down on...trying to send their dirty thug kids to our pure privileged schools....that's who needs to be locked up!!
