More Americans voted for Obama in last two elections, but a vocal minority with disproportionate media influence is trying to overturn the results of the election by lying about his policies. The people lined up against him have contempt for democracy and the will of the people. Obama has faced more filibusters than any president by a factor of 10. When Bush passed Medicare Part D - the single greatest expansion of our entitlement system since LBJ - we didn't hear a peep from the Right. Why are so many rightwing voters cheerleaders for their own political leaders, who are often worse than the Left when it comes to waste and corruption? Why did FOX News never cover the Pork that the GOP stuffed into their legislation under Bush? The unwillingness to criticize your own party implies that you are driven by mindless partisanship rather than principals.
Consider what has happened to the country since Reagan. Corporations wanted ultra-cheap labor, so Reagan (and then Clinton) liberalized trade. This allowed corporations to shift the bulk of the world's manufacturing to places like Communist China or Taiwan where workers make $5/day. Where do you think Walmart - the GOP's greatest retail contributor - gets over 50% of its products made? Don't take my word for it. Go in one of their stores and read the labels on the clothes. Put simply, Walmart makes more money when its products are made in freedom hating nations by workers who live beneath brutal dictators. Nike and Apple make more money when their products are made in freedom hating nations by workers who live beneath dictators. The American worker has been displaced not by Washington, but by the owners of Washington: large corporations, the ones which fund our elections, staff government and get bailouts when their riskiest investments fail. Rather than praising the American private sector as the persecuted pinnacle of glorious freedom, you should look at their partnership with places like Communist China. The story of post-Reagan capitalism is the story of the substitute of livable wages with credit cards (a substitute that became necessary as production was shifted to Asia and the global south).
The special interests which moved American jobs to freedom hating nations also pay rightwing talk radio to distract you with the socialist boogeyman. This country has been through 30 years of tax cuts and deregulation ... and 30 years of lowering labor costs . . . all so that we could provide better incentives to the job producers. We were told that if we did this, than we would see a glorious trickle down of jobs, competitive pricing and innovation. But we've seen the opposite. The jobs trickled over seas as one domestic sector after another was transformed into a monopoly. Whether it be cable television/internet providers or health insurance, John Galt has used Washington to divide the country into fixed no-compete zones. This allows him to raise rates and decrease services without fear of losing customers. For people who hate Marx, you are making his criticisms of capitalism look prophetic. He predicted that we would eventually be stuck with a rentier class in every sector. Who knew that John Galt was just a monopolist who would buy the competition and screw the consumer. It's a joke. This country got rolled by a rogue political movement.
