Qaddafi was killing thousands of people, and we were sitting around. We had soldiers, and we weren't bringing them in to stop the horrible carnage.

We needed to go in and stop that guy. We had to go in to save these lives. Those people were being slaughtered like animals and it had to be stopped.

So the CFR article cites 6 reasons for the American involvement in the intervention in Libya

The stated U.N. reason- to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack.

And these additional reasons

1) Regime change

2) Sending a Message to Other Dictators

3) Supporting Libyan Rebels

4) Repaying European Support in Afghanistan

5) It will be a piece of cake


Of those- only #4 is noted as being one of the reasons supported by Clinton
