Why can't our lawmakers add?

The only change with political parties in charge is what direction the money flows.

The entire system is defunct and corrupt.

The only hope is the Article V movement.

It has nothing to do with political parties, and everything to do with the unchecked power of Congress to spend what they do not have.

States need to rise up and amend the Constitution to impose a balanced budget.

First off no President can spend anything without passing Congress first. A President can use the veto sure, but Congress controls the strings. Also from George Washington to Donald Trump only ONE time has there been NO DEBT and a Balanced budget at the same time.....that was Andrew Jackson's second term.

Let's see, the last time there was a "balanced budget" was 2001.

During the lead-up to that you heard all about future generations suffering if the budget was not balanced.

Well, that generation has come and guess what....They don't really care and they are no different than the ones before, get what they can as long as someone else pays for it.

I'm thinking "well, at my age why should I worry about it if they are fine with it?".

I'll be going to my dirt nap soon enough so if I can get a few things going my way like no tax on SS then why not?

Republicans can't add. Democrats just don't give a shit about adding trillions onto our debt.

Can he do it? I do NOT know, and would never claim to know. But, what I DO know is that politicians from BOTH political entities have run us all into a ditch, but have not recently tried the method DJT is trying to do.

Personally, for all of us, and all Americans, I wish him the best of luck. If he fails, we are all screwed. If someone from the Democrats had come up with a totally DIFFERENT idea, most of us would have at least listened. But all they did is claim that ORANGE MAN IS BAD, and put forth the same ideas that got us all here in the 1st place.

In essence, what Americans said to the politicians is----------->if we are going down, we are going down with YOU PEOPLE giving us our money, and not giving it to everyone else. I concur!

Reagan also raised spending on the promise that Congress would decrease spending latter on the premise of growing the economy to help pay down the deficit.

Congress never owned up to their end of the bargain and spent even more.

Pay down the deficit all you want, and Congress will spend twice as much.

Agree, but the reality for all the senate politicians is quite simple------------>either get this, or something close to this passed, or send the country into a recession with the massive raise in taxes. If the Democrats vote to kill this and we go into a recession, 40% of them will be removed from office in 26. That is a given! Most of the purple states are no longer purple, and add a recession coming from a DEMOCRATIC vote, and it will be SAYANARA for the LEFT!

All they have to do is balance the budget with a billion or so left over to pay against the debt. May take 20,000 years to pay off, but it is possible.

ALWAYS remember------------>every LEGAL economic activity, creates a taxable event. It is said.......not sure it is accurate.......but I am going to go with it anyway------------->that if our economy grows 3 and 1/2% a year, and we freeze spending and only allow spending to rise with inflation, we will balance the budget in 3 to 5 years.

Pipedream? Probably. Congress would do like they did with the Reagan/peace surplus, and spend every last dollar, and then some. And when the USSR came back from the grave, they didn't have the gonads to rescind their spending to fund the military, instead, they woossed out and just printed money.

A Constitutional amendment is the only way to force them not to spend, that is my point, and only states can force them.

That "balanced budget" was projected to occur three years earlier....It never happened in real time.
