Why are we losing manufacturing jobs?

First off....any manufacturing jobs require sufficient tarrifs to equalize the cost of slave labor used to produce those goods.

Then after a domestic plant location is chosen (requiring logistically close raw materials, market, shipping, energy, and labor supplies) its going to require 18 months to break ground and another 18 months minimum to build....IF the manufacturing equipment is ready by the time the site is ready to receive it. (Lots of logistics)

All of this is capable but only if all funding sources are secured. (Usually a conglomeration of sources to form a corporation)

So from inception to production is usually 5 years minimum.

Trump has been in office for a grand total of 8 months....not 5 years.

Currently the Democrats supplying the legal challenges to Trump's tarrifs are going to hold back their solidification in a desperate attack on the jobs in order to stall the Job creation that will result from the higher tarrifs. (It will fail as tarrifs are an executive function)

So JD Vance will reap the benefits of the tarrifs....and the slaves currently being fed by their slave labor efforts will starve. Causing a humanitarian crisis.
Are you sh**ing me? Democrats challenging Trump tariffs? Tariffs are a liberal economic tool. True conservatives believe in a free market.
Your babbling above the proof you don't know what you are talking about.

I can't help what Democrats do. They are the ones playing oppositional politics. (Republicans do it too)

Everyone seems to forget when Bill Clinton wanted to create a Border Wall for Mexico to stop the flood of illegal immigrants. Republicans stopped him at every turn. Newt Gingritch was extremely successful at getting things accomplished then.

Today, Trump builds the wall and people think he is a hero for it.

So....I'm not exactly the one babbling at the moment now am I? You just don't like what I'm saying is all. Truth is offensive to many people and you seem to be one of them.

Let me explain some more nuances of manufacturing plant construction.

Everything is built using credit instruments (commercial paper)

So you have 500 mill in a plant but you don't really want to own it. You don't have the team or want the risk exposure. You have many other enterprises that you have the almost exclusive monopoly on. (Minerals, materials and etc)
Someone comes to you and wants a contract for a large quantity of those exclusive materials. So you tell them they can but they will have to buy 20 million of bonds for this project you funded. (There is no other source that can provide the amount they want) And since interest rates have fallen since you funded it....you make a profit on the bonds and reduce your exposure. The material consumer doesn't want the bond so they look to dump it off too and it's sold in smaller pieces by Morgan Stanley or Principle to mutual fund owners.

All these sorts of international deals are a bit more complicated than this but I've simplified it for the average person.

Happens every day of the week. And everyone goes home happy....

Why are we losing manufacturing jobs?
Trump promised a better economy with emphasis on bringing back manufacturing jobs.
Unemployment was up in August with concerning losses in manufacturing.
Why are the tariffs and threat of tariffs not bringing more business to established US manufacturers?
Trump may bring back manufacturing but the jobs are likely gone for good. How many workers do you see?

Are you shitting me, VAMPIRE SUCKING DEMOCRATS HELLO! Democrats have sunk their mooching fangs into manufacturing companies. They treat them like their own personal piggy banks, vampire sucking the companies dry. Dems will tax and fee a manufacturing company right into bankrupcty, they don't care.
Like the Trump-Intel deal?

Following his election in November 2024, Donald Trump has engaged in a notable economic strategy by converting federal grants to corporations into government equity stakes. A prominent example is the August 2025 deal with Intel Corporation, where the U.S. government took a 9.9% equity stake in the company.
This is one of several similar deals undertaken by the Trump administration that have blurred the traditional lines between the public and private sectors and drawn a mix of praise and criticism

Yep....guess who does the maintenance on these gizmos?

An electrician usually.
And why are the lights burning in that factory? It's not like they are needed.

Is that good news?
Yes,
Reducing prime lending rates will help create jobs through construction and reduce the Government's interest payments on its debts. Allowing it to do more things with its resources to spur economic growth. (Such as reduce taxes)

And destroys wealth through inflation. Not to mention makes it easier for government to continue spending like a drunken sailor.

With my 1st ¢ I'll go with automation being a factor.
I'll put my 2nd ¢ on supply-chain issues along with planning difficulties caused by the tariffs.

Automation means different jobs....high skill to moderate skill jobs. Meaning doing well in math and science in school. All that stuff that most people believe they will never need in the "real world".

Truck loading and driving are the low skill jobs of the future. There are no more low skill manufacturing jobs. Monotonous work that causes carpal tunnel syndrome is over. Machines do better and don't call out sick. And when they need repairs? The repair bill is high.

Some jobs can be replaced by robot automatons. Just $9k ea....(3 needed per 8 hr shift as their batteries only last 2 hrs)

And those charging stations need an electrician to install.

This is not going to work out well for those who can't do applied math.

Then why did manufacturing jobs increase under the Democratic Biden presidency?

Manufacturing in the United States is a gigantic entity. We didn't "lose" 12,000 jobs, we hired 12,000 less than predicted. Only left wingers see this type of spin as good news. Where were they when Biden/Fauci shut down the entire freaking economy?

Per ADP private-sector jobs report there was a reduction of 7,000 manufacturing jobs in August.

Below are ADP's numbers for total job growth across all private-sector job categories for the last 17 months. I can't help but remember that Trump's big tariff announcement occurred on April 2nd which he referred to as "Liberation Day".

I cautioned you folks during the COVID shutdown that that was going to reshape the landscape and it would take years for it to settle. Companies tilted toward a mindset of figuring out how they could get by and be even more profitable with fewer workers be it a mom and pop restaurant or a manufacturing plant. Perhaps the BLS should start producing statistics about how many jobs are being performed by machines-only now.
