The media controls information, but who is responsible for bringing needed knowledge to the public?

The "public" will always be operating from a lack of information. There are just too many stakeholders of data with a vested interest is withholding or altering data.

Take for example, the Global Warming Debate. Both sides in this debate are guilty of altering raw data, producing spurious conclusions, and just plain lying until the phrase, "believe the science" has become a joke. I don't care what your position is on the subject, your position isn't based on the full story... it is based on data altered to match someone's agenda.

However, even in game where you're playing against the house, there are ways you can better your odds.

1. Don't believe any single source of information. I don't care if it's Fox of MSNBC, Pravda, or Al Jezeera. No single source is going to give you at 100% accurate picture.

2. Test anything you read. Does it make sense? Does it match what you already know to be true?
3. Be honest with yourself, are you believing something just because it fits your own narrative? Do you have doubts that you're unwilling to face because to doubt is to muddy your long held beliefs?

4. Reject any argument based on emotion. Any sensational or inflammatory report can't be 100% true. Emotion is the enemy of truth.
