Who coined "separation of church and state?"

According to who? Me personally, I don't think it's a violation of the First, nor do I care whether or not it's there. You guys are welcome to your manger, if you want.

I just have a big problem with the whole "persecuted Christians" idea. No one is unfairly targeting Christians, there's no "WAR ON CHRISTMAS". It's just more scare tactics.

Sorry I can not agree. There is a war on Christmas. It is not being waged by a large amount of people. But there is a small far left group of people who detest any sign of Christmas and fight it where they can. Last year we had a group of People protesting with signs outside our civic center. Which is only half city owned. Because of Christmas lights on some of the pine trees on the grounds. Those people are waging a war on Christmas IMO.

I don't consider the actions of a small group of batshit wingers to constitute a "War on Christmas", the same way I don't consider the actions of the Westboro Baptist Church to be a "War on Soldier's Funerals".

And no one else does either, you know why? Because soldiers aren't wimpy, whiny, weenies like Christians who cry about a war on Christmas are.

What? Most soldiers I knew were Christian. now how do you compare the two? And there is a war against Christmas in this country. And the Christians are losing. IMHO.

Ollie, people like you confirm my agnosticism.

I never said I was Christian or anything else. I keep my religion to myself. I would add that there is also a war against Jews in this country. And I'm sure that will be denied also. I really don't give a damn about anyone else religion as long as they don't try to force it on me. And that includes your Agnosticism.

War on Christmas?

Now that is funny but I guess the stores are putting up some Christmas stuff already.

Christmas is a pagan holiday co-opted by Christians, their war on christmas is not over yet, they still whine that someone is gonna steal their christmas. When they are continuing to steal Christmas.

Actually they are screwing up christmas by playing the coproprate spending game for christmas.

You are just so good at separating opinion from fact uscitizen.

Intense, why don't you start the "War on Christmas" thread for this year? I know it's early but, nonetheless, we all can get some extra mileage from it.

In 1777, the Continental Congress voted to spend $300,000 to purchase Bibles for distribution in the nation.
You lie.

What Jack Fate seems to have forgotten (if he knew in the first place), 1777 is a decade before the Constitution and about 14 years before the 1st amendment was written. So.....the 1st amendment certainly would not apply.
That's a fact, Jack. From 1777 to 1789, there was a huge shift in the American people's attitude toward civil authority over religion.

John Locke. Over and over and over and over.

The toleration of those that differ from others in matters of religion is so agreeable to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to the genuine reason of mankind, that it seems monstrous for men to be so blind as not to perceive the necessity and advantage of it in so clear a light.

James Madison believed that a legal equality among religious sects, which he referred to as "the separation between the authority of human laws and the natural rights of Man" and "the separation between Religion & Govt in the Constitution of the United States", was a truly Christian principle. See Detached Memorandum by James Madison.

The early Christians were no dummies, they made their major holidays coincide with major pagan holidays on purpose. Made it easier to get converts....

The forefathers did not seek to remove God from Gov't, they want to stop the power the church had on Gov't . We need to put God back in

Absolutely not. That is what your church, synogogue, mosque, coven, temple is for.

And you can go **** yourself. You're a damn liar. Congress can make no law establishing a religion. That means the American people are free from congressional authority concerning their religion. There is nothing in that claus that say to keep our religion in our church, synogogue, mosque, coven, or temple.

You're a lying idiot.

The Constitution totally excludes religion from the cognizance of the U. S. Government. That means the government is prohibited from influencing religion or the duty which we owe to our Creator, and the manner of discharging it. The religion of an official of the U. S. Government is relevant because he has no authority whatsoever over the subject.

i've seen the original text and what he really wrote was "feparation between church and ftate."

i think he'd been drinking at the time.

:eusa_whistle:

I must confess, I cannot figure out the grammar rule on that one. It is a puzzlement.

Back in the late 1700's and early 1800's, a symbol which looked much like the letter "f" was often used to represent the letter "s" when the letter "s" was used anywhere but as the last letter in a word.

But I support Christmas. My favorite time in NYC. ;):):) I bet I know who's getting coal in their stockings this year too. :):):)

I guess I'm wrong. You're a weenie, wimpy crybaby soldier.

How are the Christians losing? Is someone preventing you from celebrating Christmas? Do you put up your tree in fear of arrest? Do you put lights on your house and then are afraid to light them?

Christians aren't losing anything (except public opinion when their priests molest children) but you are likely losing your mind.

There's a war against Jews and Christians in America, yet Americans are afraid to get on a plane with a Muslim.

Man, you conservatives are truly nutty.

Who pray tell is fighting this war against Christians and Jews?

Is it the Muslims?

:cuckoo:

Only think you've said that makes any sense. The Christians took over the pagan holidays all except for Halloween. Samhain was the summer's end holiday. But Christians couldn't make anything up to fit it I guess. They invented Jesus' birthday for Christmas. They invented his coming back to life for Easter. I guess they couldn't make one up for the Summer Solstice either. It's a pagan to celebrate Easter with eggs and rabbits. It's a fertility celebration. Christianity's just more hocus pocus to control the masses.
