Who are your favorite slide guitarists?

My favorites include Sonny Landreth (my #1 favorite), Duane Allman, Chris Rea, Elmore James (blues), Muddy Waters and the slide work of Robert Johnson (blues, late 1930's).

I can dig Duane Allman. Muddy Waters also influenced many great guitarists.

Dicky Betts just passed. He was pretty good :disbelief:

Jimmy Page was okie-doke, too. Clapton doing "Any Day" is memorable.

There's a lot of really good slide guitarists out there. I remember hearing the intro to Sweet Jane by Lou Reed on Rock n Roll Animal and marveled at the skill of the two guitarists. Haven't heard about them since. Duane started out as a Session Musician. Stevie Ray Vaughn payed Studio guitarist on David Bowie's "Lets Dance" Album. Listen to to it, especially 'China Girl' and you'll hear it.

Love the Blues Guitar. To me, there's two kinds of Music, The Blues and everything else.

I believe that the slide guitar is what Lee Roy Parnell plays. Let me know if I am wrong.

God bless you and Lee Roy always!!!

I'm kind of surprised no one has mentioned the likes of Jeff Beck, Lead Belly, John Mayall, Joe Walsh, or Johnny Winter.
Joe Walsh is an excellent guitarist. But he's more of a Rock Star Guitarist than a pure guitarist. But he is very, VERY good. Not knocking him at all.

Jeff Beck might be the best ever. It's hard to pick, there's just so many great ones. Don Felder wasn't bad, either. So many.......

Rock star guitarist? Not sure what that means, but Joe was an excellent country rock guitarist.

Jeff Beck might be the best ever.
Well, I'm loathe to criticize Jeff at all other than to say there were other guitarists that Jeff considered masters of the guitar to which he was but a mere student of.

That's a hell of a compliment to someone.

Thanks for your input everyone.
Wait until you get our bill.

I'd like to add Johnny Winter to my list.
No argument there. Johnny was one of if not the first live rock concert I went to as a teen in the early '70s. He was playing either with ELO or Black Oak Arkansas. (My memory is rather fuzzy of the event).

We were in an ice arena. At one point, kids were trying to sneak in, climbing in through the windows.

Good times.
