we are constantly hearing the left shout that Trump is Putins stooge and he is showing weakness by wanting to get both parties to the table to sign a cease fire and put an end to the death and destruction in Ukraine .. they've criticized his mineral deal as a 1st step and they have expressed outrage when Trump correctly states that EU countries not have done enough to help Ukraine ... we've been hearing this for 5 weeks ! where was the lefts outrage when Putin invaded and took a huge portion of Ukraine's Crimean peninsula ?? we didn't hear a peep from the left when Putin invaded and seized over 10 thousand square miles of Ukrainian territory ! the was no criticism from Dems about Obamas inaction and non military support !

Good question!

The answer is simple.

In 2014, the left had not yet anticipated the ascension of Donald Trump, and had no way to know that their primary strategy to combat him would be to try to align him with Putin.

Crimea was an invasion that happened under Obama's weak leadership and everyone knew it. So the less it was talked about, the better. Naturally, the media was on board with whatever suited the Democrats.

Once they had established the talking point that "Trump hearts Putin," they just needed to wait for Putin to invade somewhere else under Biden's weak leadership and they had their campaign ads.

The Ukrainian government reneged the agreement so Russia just said fine, it’s ours then.

Crimea wasn’t leased to Russia, the naval base was. Putin used that as an excuse to steal the entirety of Crimea. Remember he also stole South Ossetia from Georgia before coming back for a second bite of Ukraine.

Not surprising, they were REBEL forces. The Red ARMY made a practice of attacking loyalist forces during the Russian revolution, in the Spanish Civil War both sides attacked each other when possible. In a rebellion or civil war, the objective is to kill the members of the other side so as to end the war. Given your rabidly pro-Russian posts here, I'm sure you believe that the legitimate government of Ukraine should have let Russia steal away any of its provinces it cared to. In fact, I'm sure based upon your attitudes that you believe the Ukraine should have surrendered to Putin's demands and never defended itself against his aggression at all.
