When did spitting become cool again?

Was raised getting told not to spit in public. Kids and adults here spit constantly. Makes having my window open a bit grody hearing the kids clear their throats and hock a loogy. When did this become a thing to do again and not not do?

Is someone spitting on some tv show I've never heard of but of appeal to some demographic that I'm unaware of it?

Well I've been alive for a long time and I can tell you my brother started spitting is cool in Australia.
