He’s pretending he was an Iraq war vet who got his medals from there. In reality he was a cook in Georgia and one of his medals was for marching in a parade. He’s using vague terms to bolster his service like decorated war veteran, implying he was in the war zone and earned medals for valor.
Just like Walz he’s fraudulently puffing up his record.
