Beef prices have soared in the US — and not just during grilling season

The average price of a pound of ground beef rose to $6.12 in June, up nearly 12% from a year ago, according to U.S. government data. The average price of all uncooked beef steaks rose 8% to $11.49 per pound.

.
[snip]

.
President Donald Trump's tariffs have yet to have a major impact on beef prices but they could be another factor that drives prices higher because the U.S. imports more than 4 million pounds of beef every year.

Much of what is imported is lean beef trimmings that meatpackers mix with fattier beef produced in the U.S. to produce the varieties of ground beef that domestic consumers want. Much of that lean beef comes from Australia and New Zealand that have only seen a 10% tariff, but some of it comes from Brazil where Trump has threatened tariffs as high as 50%.

If the tariffs remain in place long-term, meat processors will have to pay higher prices on imported lean beef. It wouldn't be easy for U.S. producers to replace because the country's system is geared toward producing fattier beef known for marbled steaks.

Prices will likely stay high

.
Trump was relentless toward Biden about grocery prices.

Fox "News" was on board with this propaganda: Prices of eggs, milk, steak up since Biden took office

Trump's supporters didn't want to hear anything about the bird flu. They put egg prices all on Biden.

So no excuses for Trump and the price of steak, mm-kay?

Karma is a *****.
Pork chops

Didn’t say it did, just highlighting that it happened and the number wasn’t made up
It didn't happen and the number was made up.

That's what you just proved.

No, you didn't. You said it was nationally over $6.00 a gallon.

It wasn't.

You lied.

This is very simple stuff here, kiddo.

You stated as a fact something that was never real.

I thought you loons hated cows, you know cows farts was destroying the environment? Do you not remember that? So now you want more cows? Which is it hatred of Trump, or the environment?

Are you anti-Hindu?

You don’t get to blame Biden when Trump’s president.
Well, the previous president's policies could still have a lingering effect after he's out of office.

Sometimes it's not possible to attribute something to which president. The terms of presidents in your country are kinda short, only 4 years. When the last one goes out, the crap he produced during his term might still stink for a long time after that.

Are you anti-Hindu?
Just once I wish you would stop putting a spin on things. That's about all you do, you never debate people's points honestly. Even though you know perfectly well what they mean.

I'm not hearing a denial.

Crepitus

1) that’s not me
2) that posted didn’t say it was 6/gallon nationally

You lie

Meaning beef prices are higher and have been for awhile, because of smaller herds mean less supply but to keep up with demand, imported beef is necessary and would cost more anyway,
Ok, I don't know much about economics, but: don't companies constantly outsource stuff to overseas? For example, a manufacturer of running shoes might ship materials to a third-world country, hire workers there to make the shoes, and then ship them back to sell in the domestic market. This must be cheaper and they must be making a profit because otherwise they wouldn't be doing it. Therefore, when you import stuff from abroad, it's quite likely to be cheaper then when it is produced domestically. So why shouldn't this apply to imported beef? Labor is cheap in non-Western countries (although I know that some beef actually comes from Australia), and I know that they don't give a shit about animal welfare and abuse the crap out of their cows, so they must be able keep everything very, very cheap. So shouldn't their beef be cheap?
