What is to be expected of Europe?

Hi! I live in Detroit but often I have to make business trips to Europe. And you know, indeed, there’re fine places, affable and approachable people excellent services. Almost everything’s just like here in the US except, maybe, their policy, or to put it straight, their politicians .
Take, for example, Sweden (currently presiding in the EU). Its leadership has been trying to [charter97. org/en/news/2009/7/20/20239/] mend up the ties with Belarusian President Lukashenko of late. Just in case you don’t know yet,
[europeanbelarus. org/en/news/2009/4/18/492/] Europeans call him “the last dictator of Europe” [/url]. It’s been pretty long since our politicians realized that [washingtonpost. com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/24/AR2006032400942.html] dealing with him is disrespectful to ourselves. Btw [charter97. org/en/news/2009/8/14/21057/] we have not backtracked so far, while Europeans led by Sweden seem to have spat upon democratic principles!
Anyway, neither you nor I can do anything about it, but our politicians might play hardball till those ‘highbrow democrats’ balled everything up.

Detroit?? My God you would be safer living in Kabul or Baghdad at this point. If i were you i would be much more worried about just surviving in Detroit rather than what's going on in Europe. Perhaps this is not attempt to "mend" anything with Lukashenka, rather letting the people of Belarus know they are not forgotten? Although the regieme might be bad we should not abandon its people.
