Iran began its current regime with a coup over the Shah of Iran in 1979, as the Iranian regime illegally took over the US embassy in their own country and held American prisoners for years. But the US allowed it and basically did nothing to punish them as they negotiated their release. God only knows what the US gave them in return for the release of those hostages, which only emboldened them. For you see, it was their position that both Israel and the US were "The Great Satan" of the world, therefore, fighting them with any means possible was justifiable and righteous, because they were just that evil. Since then, they have been chanting death to America and death to Israel pretty much every day of every year since. And many of you may agree and would like to assist them in destroying both Israel and America because they deserve it. Basically, it is the final and only answer to all the evils both countries have supposedly done to them and the world.
But Iran was not a world power that could directly confront the US and Israel, so it used its oil revenue to fund terrorism against both powers by funding various proxies like Hezbollah and Hamas and the Houthis. It also began a weapons program to create ballistic missiles than could reach those countries as well as possible WMD's to put on those weapons, thus giving them for the first time an ability to directly attack and confront both countries. This is what President Trump said he was there to prevent in the most recent attack on them.
So, how has Iran attacked the US over the years?
April 1983: A suicide car bombing kills 63 people, including 17 Americans, at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. The Iran-backed terrorist group Islamic Jihad, a precursor and early branch of Hezbollah (not to be confused with Palestinian Islamic Jihad), claims responsibility.

So, those that question the "right" of the US to attack Iran directly overlook these attacks somehow, along with the international community. Somehow, I guess the US had it coming to them and deserved it, which is what the Left believes for the most part. These proxy wars don't really count as international illegal acts and should be ignored as you let them continue this line of aggression unopposed, or so you would be led to believe by the media and the Left.
It is akin to how the Left views the issue with blacks in America. For you see, they point to slavery in the Deep South as evidence of how evil the US really is, despite overlooking the fact that slavery at that time occurred all over the world as well. They then point to the oppression of Blacks after the slavery during the Jim Crow era as further evidence of just how evil the US really is, despite overlooking that white Americans fought the bloodiest war in US history to free those slaves in the first place. Somehow, that does not count either to make amends for the sins of their past in any way and never will. In fact, the Left insists to this day that the US pay endless reparations to indiscriminate African Americans till the end of time, people who were never slaves and may not have even had a history of slavery in their blood line, like Kamala Harris whose ancestors owned slaves, but because of the color of their skin, they deserve it. But despite the fact that no amount of money can make up for the sins of the past, Americans must pay it anyway. The never-ending oppression of white folk I guess is their just deserts. But it goes beyond the money. Somehow the fact that jail cells are predominantly filled with African Americans is also unacceptable, even though they may be guilty of the crimes that got them there. But somehow those crimes must now be overlooked because the US made them do it, and all based on the oppression that their race received in the past. So, it is not only understandable that they would kill and oppress white Americans, they should also be freed from jail as soon as possible. But the problem is, most of their crimes are black on black crimes and not against white people. Yet this too is overlooked, and all because the US regime is at its roots evil, and as such, unredeemable and must be destroyed.
Iran is viewed in a similar light. Just like the Black-on-Black violence in America must be overlooked, the fact that Iran has just recently murdered over 30 thousand of its own people must also be overlooked. The fact that Iran attacked all of its neighboring countries who had NOTHING to do with the US attack must also be overlooked. And the fact that it has oppressed its people, especially women and gays, since their revolution as well as all of the proxy wars across the Middle East that have murdered hundreds of thousands must also be overlooked.
What in the hell has the UN ever done about Iran? What has the international community ever done about Iran? The UN is too busy writing resolutions against Israel to even be bothered because that is the only country they seem to enjoy reprimanding.
