Trumpās false claim of āEV mandateā gains traction in Michigan
ST. CLAIR SHORES, Michigan ā āAttention auto workers: Kamala Harris wants to end all gas powered cars,ā a new Trump campaign ad warns Michigan voters. āCrazy, but true!ā
Only itās not true, or at least, not completely. The attack line is a distortion of two policies the vice president and President Joe Biden have pursued: stricter tailpipe pollution standards for newly built cars along with hefty subsidies to produce the new generation of electric vehicles in the U.S.
Itās part of a broader critique Trump and Republicans have leveled at Democrats this election cycle, claiming they support an āEV mandateā that will devastate the U.S. auto industry and open the floodgates to Chinese-made cars. While U.S. tariffs on Chinese vehicles ā which Trump first levied and Biden increased ā have effectively kept them out of the market, the anti-EV rhetoric is gaining traction in this crucial swing state at the center of American car culture.
Driven by Republicans, most Americans are concerned about fraud in the 2024 election
Whether it is a run of the mill lie like the one about EV mandates or the hugely consequential lie about voter fraud the believers seem to be impervious to the truth. Partly because the lies are reinforced by RWM. Partly because The Following has been convinced they can't trust what they hear and read on main stream media even as their favorite RWM sources lie to them. Needless to say it's an enormous problem that is tearing the country down.
