Bill gates owns more farm land than anyone else in America. The total amount he owns is almost as much land that's in all of Hong Kong.

It's a little worrisome that a ultra wealthy progressive activist owns so much farm land in America.

It's also a bit disconcering how much American farm land china owns.

China is buying up American farms. Washington wants to crack down.

Bipartisan pressure is building to stop foreign nationals from purchasing American farm operations and receiving taxpayer subsidies.

American companies own Chinese farms and farmland as well.

You might not have known about it but it caused a huge ruckus a few years back.

It centers on Tamiflu. A powerful antiviral. It is made from a molecule only found in star anise. Star anise trees are slow growing too....like pecan trees. Takes 15-20 years to get a meaningful crop from a tree.

We encouraged a pharmaceutical company to buy all of the available star anise groves in China....and they got 80+% of them.

Then the process for extracting the molecule involves volatile chemistry....several plants exploded and were destroyed manufacturing the medicine.
The USA had all means of production and supply of the spice locked up for decades....as well we locked up all production of the final drug...it was only in the hands of the USA Government. No other country was allowed to have any to treat influenza. We couldn't go down to the local drugstore and get any either.

The VA was the storehouse for so many boxcar loads it was ridiculous...and they whined but just kept on doing as directed.

This is not the end of the world.
