I have never ever been fishing or hunting or camping ??
I know these are vital to Christian upbringing in America
Would have been kind of cool to experience
Plus I cannot fix anything and most Christians excel in this
Finally , could have used some good azz whoopings which may have made me a better person
My parents weren't very 'Christian' but did make sure I went to Church. And I had other wonderful Christian mentors growing up.
Hunting and fishing were not much of a component of that though pretty much the entire community engaged in both at some point. I could clean, load, fire pretty accurately a rifle or shotgun when I was ten.
But growing up in a Christian community before God was made unwelcome in so many places, we enjoyed wonderful Christian traditions, symbols, activities. The Church and the school were the center of most group social occasions, except for PTA, bridge clubs, and sporting events that pretty much everybody attended.
No child growing up even questioned respect for authority or respect for our elders. EVERY child gave up his/her seat to accommodate the adult, most especially older adults, entering the room. We were expected to say please and thank you whenever appropriate to do so and otherwise conduct ourselves properly.
We were blessed with student led prayers in classrooms or school assemblies or otherwise allowed a moment of silence to observe a tragedy for one of us or some other concern. There was always a prayer encouraging good sportsmanship and blessings for all in attendance at sporting events and prayer at all public functions. We were allowed to celebrate Christmas and Easter including cherished religious hymns as well as the secular stuff like Easter egg hunts and stuff. It was not unusual for a student to offer something from the Bible or something else from Church at show and tell.
And we got a world class education in our schools, were completely safe in our schools and community, all the kids had the run of the neighborhood without fear that something terrible could happen to them, people helped others in need and took care of each other. Parents saw to it that their kids got breakfast before they left for school, had a sack lunch or money for the cafeteria, had a hot meal on the table in the evening.
Kids were expected to do chores and be responsible and conduct ourselves appropriately and we all grew up as responsible citizens who appreciated character, self reliance, accountability, personal responsibility.
Blessed was the child to grow up in a Christian home, a Christian community.
