Good God!! -- $237 for a lower midlevel car battery???? When did that happen??

Also - whose idea was it to put the battery in the trunk??? WTF?
Not only do you have to remove these idiot straps that have nuts on the bottom of the bolts that you can only barely get to.
But then you realize you have to take out the spare tire to get the battery out after you finally get the insane straps undone.
And then - what drunk engineer designed these battery connectors that has nuts that are a different size than the bolt that holds the front of the battery down, which is yet again a different sized bolt as the straps??? Really??
I am 6'4"... having to stoop down and contort yourself in weird angles trying to reach this shit - and you are a month from turning 60.
I am ready to commit mass murder on GM engineers!!

I got the same sticker shock on one of the last batteries that I purchased from O'Reilly's. After I regained my composure, I went to a local farm supply store and found one for less than half. What model GM car is it that has all of these problems? I would like to know which to avoid. Wow.

Heat destroys a battery. All of my British cars had the battery in the trunk, or as they call it, the boot.

LOL, I had VW bugs that had the battery under the back seat. Quite a surprise when heavier folks sat back there and the seat springs crossed the poles. Things got warm in a hurry. Also had a VW van that had it mounted in the rear next to the motor.

My mothers car, she is 85 years old. 2009 Chevy Cobalt.
My brothers and I are fastly approaching the time where we have that discussion with her that she needs to stop driving. She is still in quite good health, considering. But weak and frail. If anything whatsoever happened, she couldn't possibly react fast enough to do anything to prevent anything.

If you are lucky there will be a Rural King nearby. Cheapest batteries around. Just paid $60 for a battery everyone else wanted $125 plus.

If Rural King can sell them that low, so could others.

A few years ago when I still had my Grand Cherokee, the AGM battery cost was 290 bucks. The original lasted 8 years. They are rated more for the newer electronics in vehicles and last longer.

It was under the electric passenger seat and was a bitch to get out.
The seat had to be all the way forward.

Back in 2017 it cost me almost $300 for battery for a 2014 Elantra. I complained the car was only 3 years old and they gave me a few bucks off. But told me some bullshit it's the way batteries are made these days.

I never look to get anymore than a token prorata discount with batteries or tires. They are designed to get you to buy. They are very well worded to protect the mfr from paying excessive amounts except in extreme cases.

I have a convertible that you have to jack the car up . Remove tire, wheel well, strap, then box to get to battery. Ya, loads of fun.

/—-/ I’m my younger days, I liked to do most of the maintenance, it was also a necessity with two cars, a wife, and three kids. But even back then I’d take it to a shop so they could put it on a lift to change the battery.

Ya, I divorced at 52. I will likely be doing my own mechanics till I die. Only way that doesn't happen is if I continue to be as lucky at the flipping houses as the last three. Not likely though. Guess who does all that rehab. Ya, it's me. No money to pay help constantly leveraged to the hilt. Gotta take chances to build a retirement in 13 years. Ya, so much for golden years, huh. I guess I can't complain. I hunt and fish a lot. It could be worse

they skyrocketed because of taxes and regs placed on them during the Obamma admin ..

Generally speaking, I think you're probably gonna get as much life out of a 70 dollar wally world battery as you would with a battery that cost a couple of hundered bucks some place else. And these days it's not much life.
