What in the holy.... at one point did car batteries exceed $200???

Ya, I divorced at 52. I will likely be doing my own mechanics till I die. Only way that doesn't happen is if I continue to be as lucky at the flipping houses as the last three. Not likely though. Guess who does all that rehab. Ya, it's me. No money to pay help constantly leveraged to the hilt. Gotta take chances to build a retirement in 13 years. Ya, so much for golden years, huh. I guess I can't complain. I hunt and fish a lot. It could be worse
/——/ I’m 73. My brother and I had some rentals for 25 years. I know how hard it is.
I earn a nice income trading stock options, so I don’t have to do physical work.

Well so far flipping since the divorce has gone really really well. Maybe luck continues and I recover. I have a fishing charter business and house flipping going. Both fledgling businesses so they require my constant input. The foundation for recovery has been laid I just have to keep up the energy to invest in it. Easier said than done at my age but like I say could be worse. I did receive one big break in the whole ordeal. She got remarried six months after our divorce. Only six alamoney payments had to be made. It could have been worse.

Generally speaking, I think you're probably gonna get as much life out of a 70 dollar wally world battery as you would with a battery that cost a couple of hundered bucks some place else. And these days it's not much life.
By my experience with O'Reillys, the identical, branded battery was less than half of O'Reilly's price.

Good God!! -- $237 for a lower midlevel car battery???? When did that happen??

Also - whose idea was it to put the battery in the trunk??? WTF?
Not only do you have to remove these idiot straps that have nuts on the bottom of the bolts that you can only barely get to.
But then you realize you have to take out the spare tire to get the battery out after you finally get the insane straps undone.
And then - what drunk engineer designed these battery connectors that has nuts that are a different size than the bolt that holds the front of the battery down, which is yet again a different sized bolt as the straps??? Really??
I am 6'4"... having to stoop down and contort yourself in weird angles trying to reach this shit - and you are a month from turning 60.
I am ready to commit mass murder on GM engineers!!
Buy them from a wholesaler next time.

Find one of these near you and see what they have, I got several batteries there, they were like hugely less expensive than those high street stores. If I recall I paid like 30% less than some common brand name battery would have cost at Walmart or O'Reilly etc.

They'll even give you ten bucks off if you bring your old dead battery in.

They don't "do retail" but if you walk in they will sell you anything, it's not a shop with shiny shelves and bright lights, it's large organized warehouse and you ask for what you want and they will find something matching.

I had to park around the back and walk through a non-descript door, like an old speakeasy.

This was the brand I got

This was the battery I got (I got four, used to power a DC inverter when we have power outages in Arizona)

I think I paid around 160 bucks.

/----/ Costco. Nuff said.

A maintenance free battery is only maintenance free if operated under the correct conditions, so if it gets too warm or overcharged, it'll need it's water topped up.

Warranties are often extended by increasing the gap between the bottom of the casing and plates. As sediment builds up over time, it shorts the plates.

So, you have never heard of AGM batteries.

OK I found my original receipt for the battery I bought, it was in fact 89.95.

This is the battery spec (the 31TXXHD, bottom of this list)

Here's the catalog for those interested, I have four of these used in conjunction with a DC inverter to power my big freezer if/when we get power outages in Arizona during monsoon, they are superb quality.

So get them at wholesale prices and stop fucking around.
