When you say "the end of the world" I am not really sure of what you are referring to. To me, the second coming of Jesus Christ is near. When He comes there will be a rapture of the righteous who will be caught up in the sky to meet him at his coming. The unrighteous will remain on the earth and the earth, through Jesus Christ will be burned with fire which will end the worldliness of the world. Those who were raptured will come back on the earth to inhabit it and will be those who live under the rule of Jesus during his 1000 year millennial reign. The righteous dead will resurrect in the beginning of the 1000 year reign and the unrighteous will have to wait until the end of the 1000 year reign before they are resurrected. At the end of the 1000 year millennial reign, this earth will be changed and become part of the celestial kingdom of God which is part of the kingdom of heaven.
In the Book of Revelation it speaks of a book that was sealed with seven seals. The prophet Joseph Smith received revelation regarding the meaning of the book and its seven seals.
Doctrine and Covenants 77:6-7
6 Q. What are we to understand by the book which John saw, which was sealed on the back with seven seals? A. We are to understand that it contains the revealed will, mysteries, and the works of God; the hidden things of his economy concerning this earth during the seven thousand years of its continuance, or its temporal existence.
7 Q. What are we to understand by the seven seals with which it was sealed? A. We are to understand that the first seal contains the things of the first thousand years, and the second also of the second thousand years, and so on until the seventh.
From these verses, I understand that the temporal existence of this earth (from the time Adam fell to the end of Christ's millennial reign on earth will be a total of 7000 years). I believe that when Christ died and was resurrected was the end of the 4th seal or 4000 years since Adam fell. I believe that Christ died in the year 33 A.D. and so the end of the 5th seal would 1033 A.D. and the end of the 6th seal would be in the year 2033 A.D. Just after 2033 A.D. the 7th seal will begin and the Book of Revelation has Jesus coming sometime near the beginning of the 7th seal or 7000 year period of this earth's temporal existence. So Christ may come sometime after 2033 A.D. but near that beginning year. That is not too far down the road from now. Even the prophets currently over the church are warning us to prepare ourselves for Christ's second coming. So basically we accept that according to the Book of Revelation, Christ will come after the opening of the 7th seal and will reign on the earth for 1000 years.
