What are teachers paid for?

If you have a teacher who teaches kids how to pass an exam, has this teacher done their job well or not?
Surely the point of teaching kids is to actually teach them something that will give them skills in the future, rather than just a certificate.
How do you evaluate whether or not a teacher is giving kids skills for the future? Check back in 20 years?

It’s not perfect, but exams are necessary to evaluate what kids are learning in the here and now.

I can only speak for my school system.

They are paid to teach. Which involves instruction, classroom management, compliance with such things as IEP's, after hours lesson planning and grading.

How much they are paid is a function of two criteria:
  • Years of credible service,
  • Degree level held.

Credible service is full years of completed teaching experience.

Degree level changes the "lane" (Bachelors, Masters, Masters + 30, Education Specialist, and Doctorate).

This person has really got the woke socialist teachers union bullshit down pat

Teachers are servants of the state and exist to create good little libs in their own image

And their reward is a cushy retirement

What was “woke” about that post?

Professionals tend to be compensated based on a mix of their education level and professional experience. There was nothing political one way or the other there.

Its what yhe so-called “professionals” do for the money that bothers me

Grooming children to be socialist perverts is killing America

IDK.

I went to public school and I’m not a socialist pervert.

If anything I recall most my teachers had a slightly conservative bent, though most were professional enough to at least try to separate that from what they actually taught.

"A cushy retirement".....hahahahahaha

So, those laws the teachers unions keep pressing for to allow them to encourage children to keep the secrets between teachers and children away from parents is just a figment of my imagination? How about statements from the current administration in regards to the state deciding everything about what children are exposed to and not parents - am I making that up? How about the current state of affairs where parents are labeled TERRORISTS if they dare to try to protect their children? Is that "bullshit"?
You listened to Fox news, they say the same thing!

The response to the OP had nothing to do with economic philosophy.

The OP's question was very straight forward: "What they know, their degrees, or what they teach?"

You know that how teachers are paid (assuming the OP is talking about public school teachers) are posted on pretty much every public schools website in the country. Go check for yourself. You will find that the vast majority of teachers are paid based on two variables: Education Level and Years of Teaching Experience. Most public education teachers are not paid by subject matter.

The response has nothing to do with "socialisms" or "Teacher Unions", it factually answers the OP's question. The fact that you have a hard on against public education isn't my problem.

Sure, and who checks back in 20 years time?

Exams are there to see whether something is being done, but they often evaluate only simple fact knowledge. Sometimes there are exams which do evaluate critical skills, but often how do you know if a teacher taught this, or if a kid already has it?

If it's so lucrative then become one instead of whimpering and crying about it. Show the nation how to fix it. I'm sure the kids will fawn all over your methods and yearn for more learning.

Are you 12?

Or do you remember watching Captain Kangaroo growing up?

I’m guessing closer to the latter time in history when teachers were much higher quality than today

If so then why waste time and bandwidth on asking a question that can be answered with a simple cut and paste?

I don’t know check with the OP.

He may have been trying come to a point but hasn’t made it yet.

He may be trying to go to (a) paying teachers by subject, or (b) paying teachers based on student measurement. Not enough data yet.
