Can you just tell us the numbers? How many have a criminal record versus those who are just in the country illegally?” the reporter asked.

“All of them because they illegally broke our nation’s laws, and therefore, they are criminals, as far as this administration goes,” Leavitt said.

“I know the last administration didn’t see it that way, so it’s a big culture shift in our nation to view someone who breaks our immigration laws as a criminal, but that’s exactly what they are,” Leavitt said.

Democrats and Liberals - why do struggle with the notion that when someone enters a country illegally, they are breaking the law? If I cross the border into Canada or Mexico without them knowing, I have broken the law. Here is one of the relevant portions of the convention: "
1. The Contracting States shall not impose penalties, on account of their
illegal entry or presence, on refugees who, coming directly from a territory
where their life or freedom was threatened in the sense of article 1, enter or
are present in their territory without authorization, provided they present
themselves without delay to the authorities and show good cause for their
illegal entry or presence"
That means the only citizens who can claim asylum in the United States are those of Canada and Mexico, or possibly those who come DIRECTLY to the USA by sea or air WITHOUT TOUCHING LAND IN ANY OTHER COUNTRY.
