Food banks say they are wholly unprepared to feed millions of Americans when Republicans’ cuts to traditional federal safety net programs take effect.

The GOP’s megabill slashes more than $1 trillion from the nation’s largest food aid program and Medicaid, with some of the cuts taking effect as early as this year. Low-income people grappling with higher costs of living could be forced to turn to emergency food assistance.

As the reality of the impact trump's second tax cut for the wealthy sinks in I'd like to suggest something to my fellow liberals. Something tangible, providing the opportunity to combat Repub's disregard for the poor in a real way. Make a financial contribution to a local food bank or even volunteer at one if you have the time. Not only does it help feed hungry Americans, it feeds your soul. At the same time it's a chance to send a big eff you to every congressional Repub who voted for hunger as a means to give a tax cut to their wealthy donors.

1. I always fill the mailbox with random crap from the cabinets like olive paste on stamp out hunger day

2. I'm okay with them ending the funding that mandated food be locally sourced to get the grants.

3. Our local fund bank is run by a group of conservative churches so I am enjoying hearing them complain about the cuts to their government funding and am looking forward to seeing them struggle to survive off their alleged christian charity and not those socialist government handouts. This is what they voted for so now they will see the cost of that.

4. As for poor people, I suppose they can shoplift or collect aluminum cans. The never seem to go anywhere so they'll do whatever it takes.

You could have just said you're a Repub and left out the details of your contempt for basic human kindness. We would have understood.

Kindness and decency are considered weakness in that world.

Except I am not a republican and it has nothing to do with basic human kindness. It has to do with political pressure. The more pressure it puts on the powers that be, the more likely we will have a government that isn't run by a billionaire's boys club.

Food banks have been wholly unprepared since Biden's high inflation. Or, did you forget that?

Yes! Right there at the end you finally got it. Don’t rely on the government to do your good deeds for you. Donate and volunteer at a food bank. It’s what you should have been doing all along.

The problem is that private sector/nonprofit assistance is inconsistent and at times capricious, often difficult to access with brief application periods with many ending up without assistance – not that those on the reprehensible right care, of course.

Cutting 1 trillion? The world could already be fed with that money. Why are there still hungry people? You're lying as usual.

If you want to donate time and money to insulate the billionaires from the consequences of their own decisions, then go for it. They will appreciate your help.
Explain how having no billionaires makes these people's lives better?

You are not permitted to take money from the billionaires.

So, go ahead.

"This is far beyond garden-variety narcissism," his niece, who has a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, writes of Mr Trump. "Donald is not simply weak, his ego is a fragile thing that must be bolstered every moment because he knows deep down that he is nothing of what he claims to be."

I deliver meals for Meals for Wheels and make an annual donation to the Food Bank of Colorado. But there inevitably will be a deficit of food available for those who need it as a result of the $1T cut.
