story by Steve Karnowski and Amy Forliti
Minneapolis: A Minneapolis police officer who fatally shot unarmed Australian woman Justine Ruszczyk Damond has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison – the maximum allowed for manslaughter – after his murder conviction was overturned.Mohamed Noor was initially convicted of third-degree murder and manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Damond, a 40-year-old dual US-Australian citizen and yoga teacher who was engaged to be married.
Damond had called police to report a possible rape happening behind her home in the US in the 2017 incident that led to her death.
Comment:
Mohamed Noor shot Justine Ruszczyk Damond at point blank range when she walked up to the police car to ask for help.
Damond was not a suspect.
She was not armed, and she posed no threat.
Ultimately Noor only served 2 1/2 years for shooting Damond.
Noor used excessive force.
It appears that Noor violated Damond's 4th amendment rights.
Why wasn't Noor charged with violating Damond's civil rights?
