I had my first job on the books at 15, in the kitchen of an Italian restaurant. Busted my butt in there. Serious restaurant hours. Occasional 12hr days until I went back to school. I didn't work again until a few weeks after graduating high school. I've been almost continuously employed since then. I was on unemployment for about 2mos during the recession of 2007. By late summer I was back in the saddle and have been ever since, even during the pandemic as my job is in a crucial industry (food production). Lately, as it is difficult to find people of any age who really want to work and have good work ethic, I end up busting my butt just about as hard as ever. Little by little we lose people and can't find good people to replace them of any age. As a result me and about 2 other people are the main vertebrae of our business, and we are all well over 50. Sad.
