It was Jeremiah who made the claim of an unbreakable bond between the Jews and Christians. I was hoping that, after some research, he would come to the realization that it was the Muslims who granted Jews the maximum amount of freedom through the ages and that in Moorish Spain, for example, Jews had far more status than Christians (one of the reasons they were expelled in 1492 after the Reconquista). The word Ghetto is Venetian, not Arabic.

I held back on more damaging (to his view) information regarding this bond.

For example Vatican II changed the Catechism very little with respect to Jews. The Church and its members are the new Israel.

“Jesus instituted the Twelve as ‘the seeds of the new Israel and the beginning of the sacred hierarchy’” (paragraph 877).

Or St. Peter in 1 Peter 2:9 when he says: "you are a chosen generation, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a purchased people” It's has been the traditional Catholic understanding that the title, “New Israel,” belongs to the Church. Implicitly, the Jewish people are no longer “the chosen people” or the “most beloved children of God.”

This belief was strengthened when the Temple was providentially destroyed by the Romans in the year 70 AD. This essentially destroyed the old Israel as a nation, because without a temple, it could no longer offer sacrifices to please God.

Ok, I don't believe any of these fairy tales, either Old or New Testament or Koran, but to claim that there is an unbreakable bond between Judaism and Christianity in support of Israel, is nonsense.

As to the challenge on an unbreakable bond tween religions, I would just ask "What is the point in disproving it?" What is needed is more bonds, more objective, reconciled perspectives, and fewer subjective, "only my religion's view counts" dogmatic bastions of bigotry.
