And the flooding in Vegas is off the charts!

Why Lake Mead Water Levels Are Rising Again

8/16/22 AT 6:04 AM EDT

Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the U.S., has made national headlines recently due to its rapidly declining water levels.

The reservoir across Nevada and Arizona is formed by the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, and provides electricity for hundreds of thousands of people living across the area. Due to the ongoing drought in the western United States, it has been hurtling towards dead pool level—which could be catastrophic.

However, its water levels have now risen for the first time in three years.

It would take a MONTH of solid rainfall to get the reservoir back to full.

Water level rising on Lake Mead

Only because we've had a wetter than normal monsoon season. The lake is down like 170ft from its high back in the 90s. That trend is not reversing because of a little bit of rain.

Ok, then you be the first to give up your car, never fly again, never receive electricity from coal, hydro, or natural gas.
Please step up and put your money where your mouth is.

Yes, and I'm not suggesting that the 20 year drought is over, there would need to be years of increased rainfall to accomplish that.
It is however good to see instead of the same stories about the lake shrinking, a little bit of hope.

Most of the flooding is being caused by above normal rainfall and melting snow-packs. Snowfall last Winter was heavy....and this is what you get when the temps climb and then sudden rainfall hits the slopes. This is why Yellowstone washed out.

We also had heavy rainfall in KY and TN and it flooded everyone out. It didn't effect us here in Clarksville...but Eastern KY got clobbered.
