Washington Post editor claims AR-15 was ‘invented for Nazi infantrymen’

Wow, not what he said at all.

The first assault rifles were developed by the Nazis. Ironically, Hitler didn't want them to go into mass production.

The StG 44 (abbreviation of Sturmgewehr 44, "assault rifle 44") is a German assault rifle developed during World War II by Hugo Schmeisser. It is also known by its early designations as the MP 43 and MP 44 (Maschinenpistole 43 and 44). The StG 44 was an improvement of an earlier design, the Maschinenkarabiner 42(H).

The StG 44 was the first successful assault rifle, with features including an intermediate cartridge, controllable automatic fire, a more compact design than a battle rifle with a higher rate of fire, and being designed primarily for hitting targets within a few hundred metres.[6] Other rifles at the time were designed to hit targets of over a thousand meters, but this was found to be in excess of the range in which most enemy engagements actually took place.

The StG 44 fulfilled its role effectively, particularly on the Eastern Front, offering a greatly increased volume of fire compared to standard infantry rifles. The StG largely influenced the Soviet AK-47, introduced three years after the war concluded.[6][7][8] The StG's influence can still be seen in modern assault rifles, which, after World War II, became the global standard for infantry rifles.

Speaking of that time period, Hitler’s first gun grabbing was to outlaw all Jews from owning a firearm.

I wonder what he had on his mind.

The Nazis rolled back the gun laws of the Weimar Republic.

Should point out that most of the victims of the Holocaust weren't German Jews. Most of them got out of the Country before the War started. They were Polish and Russian Jews, and guns didn't do them much good.

The Germans murdered by their own government were not willing to go along with Hitler and were unfortunately unarmed by the German government.

History doesn’t repeat, it does rhyme though.

That's not true. Germans had plenty of guns...

In fact, the guy who confiscated all the guns in Germany was Dwight Eisenhower, because you still had people who were taking pot shots at Allied troops.

Like I said, Leftards are clueless about history.

Hitler had 9 year olds serving in the army at the end. All Germans were ordered to die to protect Hitler.

Yes, that's the point. Germans had plenty of guns. They never overthrew Hitler. They fought for him to the last old man and little boy. That's why all your whinging about why we need to tolerate mass shooters because your guns are protecting us from tyranny is bullshit.

Those with guns supported the government.

You want a gun free America in 2025 under President Trump and both Houses 2/3 Republican?

America would be essentially over if that happened, guns or not.

Gun free at least means the crazies won't be shooting places up.
There’s more guns in America than humans.
How’s the governments war on drugs going?
Give it up.

It’s time to address the REAL elephants in the room, which includes fractured families, drugs, death penalty, faith, paroling, violence in entertainment, and mental health issues.

There are more non-gun owners than gun owners...

The real elephant in the room is that it's too easy for criminals and crazy people to get guns. Period.

The Japanese play more violent video games than Americans, and if you really want to go down a rabbit hole of crazy, you should watch some Japanese movies some time.

But the Japanese never have mass shootings, and homicides with guns are rare.. because they don't have guns.

It was the STG's intermediate 8mm Kurz cartridge that had more to do with the development of later firearms than the weapon itself. Not to say that certain aspects of the STG were not used but it was the 8mm Kurz cartridge that was the game changer.

The warring powers had already made use of steel stamp and weld firearm construction but mostly for submachine guns.

The German G3 is closer to the STG's internal design/operation than the AK is.

You are confused Moon Bat.

An AR-15 is not an assault weapon you idiot. No military in the world uses it.

The StG 44 was a fully automatic machine gun. An AR-15 is not a machine gun.

I have an assault weapon. It is a Class III M-16. I also have 29 AR-15s. They are not assault weapons.

How come you always have to show us how confused you are? You know we will ridicule you for it. Are you a glutton for punishment?

These stupid Moon Bats are confused about things like this.

In reality, if anything, the AR-15 is more modeled off of the Garand.

A semi auto rifle that was used by the Americans to defeat the Nazi.

An AR is also semi auto like the Garand. Just a smaller caliber, more ergonomic, better suited for optics and lighter.
