She probably wouldn't have resisted calls for it and I don't think she cared about the consequences on society. If she cared, she would have taken care of the border so it seems clear to me she knew the marching orders from donors was "keep the border open".

In fairness, Trump has also fallen for the same trap and probably cost himself a large chunk of young voters in the midterms by not resisting the 600k Chinese students status quo. This was probably part of the deal China wanted in exchange for earth minerals and/or donor demands.

He seems concerned about schools being funded but it is going to educate Americas enemies and allow hundreds of thousands of spies into the U.S. He should have taken a stance on this in my opinion but what do I know?

Both parties have their weaknesses on issues of immigration and/or national security. I just call balls and strikes. Trumps instincts were sharper just before and after the election. He seems more willing for a quicker peace than a more difficult negotiation.

Notice his stance on the shutdown? He just held out until the Dems agreed because he has to know that 80% of government workers are probably voting Dem anyways.

It's not easy being a politician. Leadership must surpass the needs of donors. Harris almost certainly wouldn't have pushed back on the open border and there is no way she would be deporting illegals as Trump is.
