Zone1 Was it right for blacks to boycott Target unless they gave special favoritism to blacks?

But the boycott wasn’t about paying workers more. It was about demanding that Target choose black-owned businesses over whites, which of course hurt white businesses.

A lot of people paid the price for these activitists demanding Target continue racist policies.
Yes they did, but my point was that even though Target took a hit wrt sales the cost of complying would have covered the cost of those fired 80 times over pa. The other arguement of course is what would have been the cost of having inferior workers on their payrolls? Or to worker morale knowing that many of your workmates were NOT as qualified as they should have been, or not as GOOD as they could have been. Imagine working in a team with members who are only there because they ticked a race box and NOT the Most Competent applicant box?

What is stopping Blacks from applying for jobs at target?

Greg
Not a thing. But that apparently isn’t good enough. They don’t want to be limited by a corporation that selects a new hire based on who is most qualified - black or white - but rather they want blacks to get an advantage over whites, regardless.

And again - that’s not the end of it. They demand that Target take $2 billion of its profits - which mostly come from whites since they are the majority - and invest it in black-owned businesses. AND, adopt black colleges (adopt as is fund) to support black students.

It’s blatant racism.

You’re not understanding. Firing 2000 workers is only part of the cost. Target must take $2 billion and invest it in black-owned businesses, when they could use that money to have special sales or simply invest in businesses that offer the most value to its customers, regardless of the race of the business owner.

Yes Lisa I DO understand. Target are NOT going to get those sales back so paying out the Billions is a waste of money. If they pay the wages of those 2000 then they keep their workforce intact. Better Customer/worker ratios; may even make shopping there a better retail experience and limit the damage.

Of course it is quite possible that the retailer has OTHER issues. I rarely shop at Target.

Questions:

1. is it racist to prioritize blacks over whites in such a way?
Yes, obviously. However, the Democrat/leftist black community has spun race issues so that they are allowed to be aggressively racist against white people but yet still virtuous because they are black.
2. Was the price of a boycott worth it, since tens of thousands of people - including minorities - lost their job as a result of falling sales?

Likely not, but this isn't about results.. it's about posturing, virtue signaling, and playing the victim, as usual

That’s not all that’s happened. Almost 2,000 hard-working staff has been laid off. Was that worth it?
It's about the viral message with the virtue signal crowd. They don't actually care if it harms people.

They might as well put "blacks only" over the water fountains.

I was on a forum discussing Bezos of Amazon givng 10 mil to fight “climate change.” The ingrates were complaining that it was not enough. Sounds like these entitled people making demands from retailers. Target does not owe you anything.

Actually one item missing in this conversation is the impact of Amazon online shopping. No need to go anywhere every thing arrives by truck often next day.

Excuse if already noted.

The article did say that Costco has increased sales and foot traffic, but I don't know how others retailers are doing.

I think one factor is Target's foray into grocery. I once walked by their food section, and it was abysmal. High prices galore. They have not gone all out on grocery like a Meijer store.
