He certainly made a profit ... by turning popular science into best-selling books, movies, and TV series.

Yes, his remarks are very insightful. He is - regrettably - describing the modern world, certainly the modern USA.

Far too many people are now ignorant and gullible, it just takes a soundbite from Trump or Musk and whatever they say is accepted as truth.

The modern US is very anti science, skeptical of the wrong people and trusting of the wrong people and those in charge want to keep it that way hence their attacks on various aspects of education.

Why would you think Carl Sagan is a prophet of the future if he's repeating what Thomas Jefferson said in the past? ... very strange ...

Was Carl Sagan a prophet?​

No. All Carl had was plain common sense. He was not seeing into the future, just predicting based on intelligence and education not much different than if you let go of a hammer. You don't need to see it fall to know that it WILL fall.

Still, his observation about the dangers of a society run by science and technology where no one understands the science and technology is an apt one, but if Carl truly had prescient abilities, he would have carried the discussion through to the next logical step that it is no accident so many are ignorant of science and technology, so that we may BE controlled, the very thing he feared.
