German supplied arms are not very useful.
"The military attaché's statements read largely devastating. For example, the Panzerhaubitze 2000, while an "outstanding weapon system," exhibits "such high technical vulnerability that its suitability for combat is seriously questioned." The Leopard 1A5 main battle tank, while proving "reliable" on the front lines, is "often used only as makeshift artillery due to its weak armor." And the newer Leopard 2A6 requires so much maintenance that repairs on the front lines are often impossible.
The assessment of the state-of-the-art air defense system was also mixed: The IRIS-T system, while very effective, is said to be very expensive, and the ammunition "is not available in the necessary quantities." The Patriot system, he said, is fundamentally an "excellent weapon system" but "unsuitable for combat use" because the carrier vehicles manufactured by MAN are too old and spare parts are no longer available.
However, one of the oldest weapon systems delivered, the Gepard anti-aircraft vehicle, appears to be receiving much praise. According to the document, the Gepard is Ukraine's "most popular, most efficient, and most reliable weapon system." The Bundeswehr had already decommissioned the anti-aircraft vehicle before the start of the war in Ukraine; mothballed systems were reactivated for the deliveries, and others were purchased from abroad."
Die ukrainische Regierung hat stets deutsches Kriegsgerät gefordert. Laut einem deutschen Militärattaché haben die Soldaten an der Front jedoch teils eklatante Schwierigkeiten mit den gelieferten Waffensystemen.
